1979:
Disco still going strong in the Sahara tent (but not for much longer); British punk begins to fill the lineup; Experimental acts Throbbing Gristle, XTC and The Human League emerge; Kate Bush stops by for a rare performance; Pakistani legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan plays the Outdoor at sunset; Fleetwood Mac fills a headlining spot vacated by Pink Floyd, who were busy recording "The Wall" and working out their own personal issues; David Bowie FINALLY plays after many years of fans' requests; Upstarts The Pretenders and The Cure impress the early crowds.

i was 7 years old in '97, So i wasn't sure what bands to put. I was just trying to design a poster so i have a chance of winning a ticket. my bad.
*based upon tedious fact checking.

in an attempt to not sound like i'm kissing ass; how cool is gv to offer a contest like this? this is awesome
Iron Maiden, Boards of Canada and Underworld for 2013
This is a cool contest. It was a lot of fun making it. I have to wonder about my lineup for 1994. Billing I think is the hardest part.
Looking up charts you see a lot of artists that I can't imagine playing Coachella but who knows who might have played 16 or more years ago. You gotta keep the reunions going though. The reunion groups you have to see if the members are still alive. I thought I screwed up in timing with Easy E
A little British Invasion in terms of the headliners in 1971...

Coachella 99-10 Vet, the run has ended in 2011
I give up. Had some cool ideas for a lineup, but I quickly found out I have no photoshop skills at all. I concede.
damn cdubya, ive been workin on my poster for hours on end- and in the meantime you have whipped out like 10. wtf.

I'll do a normal header version for that 1971... if someone can point to a decent version. The large header gif on page 1 isn't opening.

C Dub, your headers using the coachella logo keep coming out blurry and distorted looking....do you notice this? What are you doing to make that happen? You in photoshop? Are the headers not transforming or scaling right for you?
just refrain from '92 please

Well I've always used the transform tool on the header in photoshop and it's always scaled and looked fine when I need to use it, dunno what would cause that blurring/mosaic block problem.
Houses of the Holy inspired '73 poster. Thanks for viewing!
psychic friend: can people win multiple years? Like, C DUB YA creating 4 different posters -- could he win 4 different sets of tickets/VIP upgrades? Or if he only needed 2, would he win 2 sets of tickets & 2 sets of VIP upgrades (assuming he didn't already have tickets)?
Also, I believe I recall you mentioning that winners will be determined around the end of February. Will the speed that a poster is uploaded have any bearing on how it's judged? For instance, someone who waits until the end of February to post theirs can see what acts other people are using & can either jump on the bandwagon & make those acts less unique or opt against using them to make their poster look more unique. If such is the case, would it not be possible to do this like the Create Your Own Festival contest wherein the posters are submitted to you privately so ideas can't be stolen?

I'm thinking of doing a few more. Winning would be cool but it's fun to make. I'm realizing how little I know about photoshop when I look at some of these.
Awesome idea for a competition!!!
Moving to the states from New Zealand next month and have been eyeing up Coachella for the last couple of years.
We have chosen 1995, which was a time of big musical change ... the decline of grunge, the rise of britpop, the maturation of electronic, the domination of hip hop. Our poster is about musical diversity, which we think is something Coachella always seems to be about.
Enjoy!!!
Edit: we updated our lineup slightly, removed U2 - they were going weird by 95. New headliner is Rage!
Note that the Eagles are on their hell freezes over renunion tour after being split for 15 years.
