    Default Coachella participants in Recovery

For anyone planning on heading to Coachella 2010 and wishing to maintain your recovery from addiction or alcoholism, there are already a dozen of us planning on meeting each day of the festival to carry on our tradition of Soberchella. Last year we met each day at the picnic tables under the tents near the first set of food vendors. It was a great help in staying clean and sober for the festival and meet others looking to enjoy the vibe without the use of drugs. We had a range of attendees with 3-4 months of clean time all the way up to 20+ years clean and sober. If you are interested PM me or check out our social group. Hope to see you there.

Which would not be very differnet from some non-coachella SA meetings.

Tasty granola and handmade ice cream sandwiches will have to do. But out of respect for those of us who have pushed the partying too far and must now abstain, please no rainbow brownies.

    SOBERCHELLA!
Rock on. I'm pumped for meetings again this year.
I have gone to four Coachellas in sobriety, and let me say that doing meetings in the festival last year made all the difference in the world.
If you are new to this whole doing-12-step-meetings-at-Coachella thing, PM either me or Kory with your email address and we will add you to the email thread.
It was so rad last year meeting up with everyone in real life after meeting online. Plus I made new friends! I ended up staying with Emily and her man when I went to Brooklyn, and we hit a meeting in Greenwich Village.

Keep coming back, we'll be there.
1 Coachella before I got sober, 7 since. I support both versions. If you wanna do the sober version, roll with us:

Getting pretty excited today realizing that at this time next month we'll be on a flight to coachella! Plans are still on for a meeting each day when they let us into the venue. If anyone comes across this thread who is looking to meet up with others in recovery from addiction or alcoholism, pm me or involvmans and we can place you on our soberchella email list. Also, it's time to start discussing plans to meet up if any of you want to camp together.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

    Kory

You know we had a lot of that around us at last years meetings and it may have made a few people that were newly into recovery a little uncomfortable, but most of us had enough clean time to find the humor in it. We got great stories each day of something crazy happening like kids getting busted for selling E 10 feet from our meeting.
My favorite was on the first day, as we were getting started a guy comes to sit in, asked what we were doing, and we replied "having a 12 step meeting". He puts his hands up in the air, backs away as he says "woah, not for me", and moves on. I totally got it. That used to be me.

can someone please explain to me why you either have to be addicted or sober? why does the term 'moderation' never come into play?

    First question
    answer=no

    second question
answer=addicts don't moderate, if you can moderate you're not an addict.

    Now go play.

Hello. Glad to see this thread here. I've got more than 10 years clean and sober. This will be my 10th Coachella. I've attended all 10 clean and sober and I've had a blast every time.

Coachella 2010 rocks in recovery! Friday & Saturday were awesome.

Last night as I was leaving the festival, walking over bodies passed out in their own vomit, I found gratitude that this time I wasn't one of them!

I'm so glad I made it to the meeting Sunday (I hadn't been in the grounds during the other mtgs) - great to meet everyone, and also to have my wits about me for the mind blowing Orbital-Plastikman back to back (in the front row . Keep in touch and see you next year!

I believe moderation is a term that only applies to a "normy" ("normal person" - addicts, whether sober or still actively using/drinking, can't moderate - that's the problem....

Thumbs up Re: Coachella participants in Recovery

Thanks to all who participated in Soberchella 2010. Even through the logistical nightmare that is coachella, we held 6 meetings during the weekend, with 23 addicts/alcoholics attending. Hope everyone made it through the weekend and enjoyed themselves. See you next year for Soberchella 2011!

Congrats on Soberchella - sounds super cool. Does anyone know if there are meetings at Sasquatch? Or know anyone in recovery who is attending Sasquatch? This will be my first sober festival and I'd love some sober contacts. Thanks!

You might want to stay far away from stagecoach, they have fully stocked bars every couple hundred feet. You should be safe with the soju at coachella though.
