MONTREAL - Canadian folksinger and songwriter Kate McGarrigle has died, according to media reports Tuesday.
The Montreal folksinger, famous for her collaboration with her sister Anna, was 63 and had reportedly been battling clear-cell carcinoma.
The McGarrigle sisters sang in English and French and played piano, guitar, banjo, and button accordion.
The two were famous for songs such as Heart Like a Wheel, Work Song, Cool River and Lying Song. The recordings were done between 1972 to1975.
Over the years the McGarrigles' songs also have been recorded by Judy Collins, Marianne Faithful, Emmylou Harris and Nana Mouskouri.
The sisters were invested with the Order of Canada in 1994.
Kate McGarrigle was the mother of singers Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright.
