Default How do bass guitar pickups sound with electric guitar strings?

This is really just out of curiosity that me and a friend have been wondering. Not such as taking a bass pickup and slapping it on a guitar. More like taking a guitar and adding a bass bridge, or nut made for guitar string but with only four slots like a bass, and then stringing in only four strings. I love playion guitar more, but i love bass guitar tone. Im just wondering if this could be a good idea, bad idea, or could go either way.

Scott Lucas from Local H has his guitar set up with Bass pickups for the top 2 strings I believe and the sound is great.

"This is kind of what Scott Lucas of Local H does--play bass and guitar from one instrument through multiple amp set-ups. Scott's rig is a bit more physically invasive, though. He routes his guitars to fit a bass p-up under the E and A strings, running an output to a 2nd jack. That output goes through an octave pedal set to 100% wet and into an SVT. The "regular" guitar output goes to his guitar pedals and amps. The resulting sound is pretty damn amazing--you'd swear there was a bass player playing along with him. Of course, part of making this work is being a creative arranger and finding chord patterns that allow you to integrate the E and A for bass lines. Lucas makes it work amazingly well, though I suspect you're looking for something less guitar-destructive"

    go for a baritone guitar.

i've got a gretch (that's normally like a fender bass vi, which is tuned in e) but i restrung it to be more of a classic baritone (tune to b) i did this because when it was in e and i made noise high up the neck, it sounded like a wanky bass, not what i was going for. with the baritone strings, it has the brightness of a guitar, with the warmth of a bass at the lower registers.

it's a current production model G5265. i couldn't find one local, so i took a chance and got it mail order about a year ago. i love it. it's a bit of an adjustment chording with the longer scale length, but well worth it.
