Today we celebrate one of the most distinctive and prolific bodies of modern visual art created through digital processes, that of BROKENDOLL. Sanctioned away in the small California desert town of Indio, BROKENDOLL whiles away her hours composing small masterpieces of digital imagery, that when taken as a whole, combine to form a rich tapestry depicting the joys and struggles of modern life in the Internet age. Merging infantile innocence with the profane, BROKENDOLL's day-glo mosaics reflects a dual nature: years of hardened experience as represented by the mind of a child. Although primitive upon first glance, these pieces betray an underlining complexity about self and perception of self. I offer only a brief sampling of this month's featured artist's oeuvre, but many other examples are scattered across our fair message board, as well as the artist herself being in attendance as Artist In Residence for the month, providing us with ongoing works.
