Reading this thread makes me want to drink. I'm going to get ridiculously drunk as many times as possible before christmas or i'm a poser and i'm just going to get drunk 2 or 3 times.

For some reason this year i'm wanting to participate in Christmas, at least enough so that when Connor wakes up he sees a tree and a few presents. Normally we get up XMas morning and race over to his Grandmas and spend the day there. A few days ago I found a very small 3 FT tree on Ebay for $7 + $7 shipping and it's on it's way! I got the kid a scooter and a couple of books. His mom turned him into a jew a few years back so he's loving December these days with Hannuka and X-Mas presents.

^ I've never heard that before. There are, of course, always exceptions.

But for the most part, I tend not to like any Christmas songs written after, like, the 60s. I do like some of the old standards from that era (White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Do you Hear What I hear... etc.), but otherwise, I prefer carols and hymns written before the 20th century. I'm also really picky about contemporary versions of old Christmas songs. For instance, my favorite version of "Drummer Boy" is Bing Crosby and David Bowie's duet, and I'm also mostly in favor of any of Mannheim Steamroller's versions, but think that Mariah Carey (and any other pop princess of her ilk) should be permanently barred from Christmas.

Also, while we're on the topic of Christmas music; Bob Dylan's Christmas Album. It's so incredibly awesome.

This is the greatest contemporary Christmas video. Not the greatest song, just the greatest video.

I do love the UK tradition of a "#1 Christmas single" which leads to insane things like this.

i fully confess to loving "all i want for christmas is you" by mariah carey, though she blows otherwise.

also, i'm kind of in agreeance about the contemporary christmas music. let it snow isn't technically a christmas song, but boy does that song make me happy whenever i hear a good version of it. i do however like a lot of christmas songs about the blues, such as the GOOD versions of please come home for christmas.

Of the 4 minutes and 55 seconds of that video, approximately 4 minutes and 50 of those seconds are superfluous.

However, I do love the style.

Let it Snow and Please Come Home For Christmas are both on my good list. I checked it twice.

That Patton Oswalt bit was great.

Oh, and I hate all Christmas music. Sorry, but if that makes me the Grinch, so be it. I worked at a Grocery store for 2 Christmas', then at the mall for the following 2 Christmas'. The next job I chose, was specifically based on me not having to endure Christmas music. Now I work in a Kitchen and I can listen to whatever I want. One of the servers wanted me to put on Christmas music the other day and I said I have a strict no Christmas music policy. She called me "The Grinch" so I put on Mr. Bungle.

I agree with RP, but the only thing worse than Christmas music is Christmas music in advertising where they have replaced the original lyrics with even more moronic lyrics they think will help sell their product.

Good grief I can't believe anybody's lived to adulthood without hearing Fairytale of New York. It's the only good Christmas song!

With the possible exception of the following, but it's possibly too sad to break out at an ostensibly happy time.

I did...I was probably 19 when I heard it. But it came out when I was 16.

Side note...I was looking up the release date and found out Kirsty MacColl is dead. For, like, 10 years now. I just thought she had retired. This makes me very sad, so I must post these off topic vids.

It's a shame that all her fame (in the US at least) came from either singing backup or songs that others made more famous before or after her. I feel like I should dig into her catalog.

We have our annual holiday potluck in the conference room, and everyone around me is already fretting about whether there will be enough food when it's their lunchtime. We have staggered shifts and lunch hours, so this is a legitimate concern. I predict a couple fights or grievances with the union by day's end.

I've got my annual yuletide mix up on SoundCloud right now.

I've been making these since 2001 just to give out to friends. I got lazy and cheap this year and discontinued the CD altogether in favor of an all-download version.

If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll send you a link. If we're friends on Facebook, you can take a run through my recent notes and see the tracklisting from each previous installment.

somebody explain these lyrics to me. Because I find them sort of amusing. Probably not what they meant when they wrote this back in the 30s or whatever. or.. was it?

    He'll say: Are you married?
    We'll say: No man,
