    Default THE STONES

Alan Dunn who has been their touring manager was heard talking to some people at dinner last week discussing the logistics of A GIANT FUCKING STAGE IN THE CALIFORNIA DESERT!

Exciting news. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THAT POSTER WITH THE GIANT TONGUE ON IT! Alan said the band was inspired by Phish playing Exile at the location earlier this year.

but of course, a new stage is what is being discussed, and would be different, but i said awhile ago that it was the most impressive and large-scale stage setup i've ever seen, by far..

I saw them use the above stage at the petco park show in san Diego. The "parking garages" are actually seats, so contest winners, high payers, fan club members etc can actually watch the show from up there, and be part of the mothership.

Holy Cow, that's a big stage.

Not sure if I'm for/against The Stones at Coachella. Such a catalog to work from but at the same time, is it good for the festival to have old(er) acts three years in a row.

The past two years, a lot of people bitched prior to Waters and Macca. Then right afterwards came back on the threads and used 'epic' and 'face melting' to describe their experience during their shows...Figures people are now bitching about seeing these Rock legends and griping about the size of their stage, yet like sheep en masse they will sing Start Me Up...

Yeah the oldies probably will show up, but you won't have to worry cause they won't bother you while you're twirling your glow stick while on some shitty drug that most em them took 30 years ago.

    Talk about posers...

I imagine if the Stones do tour again, they won't be using that exact stage again...that was used 05-07....pretty sure they would have something new for 2010 onwards (though not saying it wouldn't be as bad or whatever, it could be worse).

I caught the Stones at Dodger stadium 3 years ago. Excellent show, perfect setlist. I would be pleased if they played, but as many have stated, it couldn't interrupt the other festivities.

I don't see why they would have to 're-arrange' the stages. The Stones wouldn't pull more people in than RATM did in '07. Plus, there is more room for a very wide stage where the main stage is now compared to the Outdoor Theater location.

Well from how I read it, it's based on the idea that some band (some say Muse? some say the stones, some say U2) are playing, and they require a giant stage....so they're gonna build and use this giant stage where the "Coachella Stage" usually is, and move the "Coachella Stage" over to the outdoor theatre (thus eliminating the outdoor theatre)...and the new Giant stage would take over as the "main stage" throughout the weekend. And the Coachella Stage would then remain in place at the new spot during Stagecoach as the "Mane Stage" (thus either eliminating the BBQ area, or moving the BBQ area to where the new Giant stage over coachella weekend once was). I don't buy any of it though...I think it's BS.

It's not B.S. The plans are in the works.

This "stage shift" really won't affect Coachella, but it is likely to affect the Stagecoach party people. Their Mane Stage will be in the corner where the Outdoor Stage is usually located for Coachella. One example: the VIP Area will be quite a walk to the Mane Stage.

On the last tour, when the Stones arrived in a major city, they played in 3 different sized venues; a stadium, an arena, and a theatre. They were much more flexible than U2, for example.

I think the shift is for Muse. And why would Coachella make the shift for one band? Because their live stage show looks damn impressive, and because they probably reduced their compensation if Goldenvoice would allow them to use "their stage". Of course, this is all speculation.
