The Specials in 2010?

I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen this mentioned since last year. They reformed this year, are playing festivals and have apparently been fantastic. As much as I love Blur & Pulp, the Specials probably have a bigger draw in third-wave-ska-central-SoCal. I had tix to see them in London and had to forgo the trip (poeriugq3gj;rekgaer-qaefasd,mzx.kfjae098q74230r!!!!!) and at the time, I saw someone who runs their main fansite post that they want to come to the US but couldn't manage it in 2009. Sooooo.....!?

Of course, this right when my own everchanging coverband is gonna tackle the whole first record as .38 Specials Education early next year......

I really want this to happen as I got to see Terry Hall & Specials live before I die but I'm starting to doubt a Coachella gig since they hate festivals and Terry not being able to handle heat with his meds he's on. I think we can bet on a regular tour of North America sometime soon tho!

I saw them a V-Fest UK this year and the band themselves were fantastic. However, the crowd was lame.

Also, the reunion is over and done. It finished in November. No more Specials shows. I don't think this is going to happen. Sorry everyone. I will gladly eat my own words if they are on the poster though.

I would love to see the reunited Specials at Coachella. I saw them 3 nights in a row in Vancouver in 1980 and they were brilliant then, and by all accounts are still great live.

How are you finding the tour treadmill, '09-style? I'm sure I recall you slagging off festivals not long ago...
Terry Hall: Festivals are still horrible. But it's been interesting to see how other bands operate.

What have you learned?
TH: That most bands are stupid.

How does that stupidity manifest itself?
TH: They go on stage.

John Bradbury: I never thought we were a festival band. But it's where a whole new generation of fans get to see us, and they seem to like it.

So what's your problem with festivals? Hippies? Patchouli?
TH: Glastonbury is like Fort Glastonbury, with that big old fence. It's like Berlin. The patchouli's well gone.

It's kinda hard to tell with Terry, who's bread & butter is looking bored but the videos of them playing V Festival & Japan's Summer Sonic look like a blast....

He does look bored. He looks like a disgruntled man in a business suit. But I saw them this summer... and damn does it ever work. They sounded great. I couldn't believe how great Terry still sounded especially.

No, you would not want to see them play the mainstage. Outdoor theatre is where you want them. I love Muse and all... but could you seem them play an act or two before Muse? Everyone would be waiting there for them... and would not want to dance at all. This is exactly what happened when I saw the at V-Fest UK this year. They sounded awesome... but the crowd was lame.

I just want it to be LOUD and I can't believe you got to see them. It would be cool if they played during Muse. I'm so pissed that I got caught up in the Muse hysteria at Vegoose and missed UNKLE. I really feel in love with UNKLE since then and for Muse, well I could care less.

Yeah, they were seriously awesome. I saw Madness a few days later too. Now MADNESS was a fucking party. One of the wild crazy shows I have ever been too. The audience was just completely mental. It was awesome.

But no, I don't want The Specials to play during Muse, because I actually want to see Muse. Have them playing during The Rolling Stones or something like that.

I read your Europe trip report back when u posted it and it sounded like an amazing time. I'm not as familar with Madness as I am with them Specials but I'm sure they would be awesome.

How can you not like the Stones? I would think they would be right up your alley.

To be honest, I've really given them the chance. My fiancee actually asked me the same question the other day. And its not that I don't like them... its just that I am completely indifferent towards them. If they are on the line up, which I highly doubt, then I will give in and look into them.

Amy Winehouse was a fucking trainwreck with The Specials. She added nothing to You're Wondering Now and she had to sit down half way through Ghost Town... it looked like she was about to colapse. It was pathetic.

I was disapointed they didn't bring out Lily Allen to sing Gangsters like they did at Glasto. Lily played right before The Specials and she was a ton of fun. I loved her set.

Im trying to see if I can find myself in the video, but I cant. I was front and centre, 2 rows of people behind the barricade.
