Not picking on John, but a lot of people and critics put out a list of groups (movies too) that are so obscure just to seem hip IMO. cr****

I can go on facebook or myspace and pick 500 bands that you never heard of and have out music. Fuck for that matter, I can go in the local paper and pick 100 bands that are playing in the next month, and you won't know any of them. Just because a band is new and the buzz band doesn't make them the best of the year. It's just about being hip sometimes. cr****

Sure. All of that is possible. Now show me an example of a critic that did that. Then I can show you that you are just old.

Ask 10 of your friends how they like these bands and see what they say. Not people here just 10 friends in general. If they know all of the bands then I would be surprised and even if they do, do you really think these are the top bands of 2009? cr****

So I can only gauge myself and my wife right now... I knew 9/10. My wife knew 8/10. There are some of my friends that would probably scratch their heads at this list... But the majority of them would be perfectly comfortable looking at this list.

And it doesn't matter if I think they are the top albums of 2009. This person did. There is nothing surprising about that list. Nothing at all. It fits in perfectly with the lo-fi and psychedelic music that is so popular right now.

Like I said. You are just old.

You let your dislike of me cloud your judgement. I could say the people that put out that list are full of it because they are too young to have any knowledge and history of good music. Age has nothing to do with it dude. But I will go with your thinking and say anyone under 40 has no clue what good music is. When they get that age you will see I am right. You can't argue with that because until that time comes and you realize I am right, you are just wrong. Nuff said (I don't believe that but I am just making stupid statements like you) ...... cr****

How can you evaluate whether it's good music if you haven't heard most of it? That's the fundamental problem. You think these lists are irrelevant because they are obscure. But they aren't obscure to a lot of people. That's what I'm calling into question, not your taste.

You started this by launching into a generalized attack on an unnamed group of people. I was defending said people by pointing out that they, and others like them, have actually listened to the music they are talking about.
