    The EP is meh.
    Splitting The Atom is ok...
Hopefully the album will be better.
There was a time when people thought that Live With Me and False Flags were going to be an indication of the sound of the then titled work "Weather Underground".
    Guess not.

Looks like they have played "Babel" live:

goddamn i can't wait for this.

i'm glad they left their weaker stuff for the EP. i have high hopes for the LP.

Unfortunately. I'll be damned if those aren't two of their better songs, too. Terry Callier's vocals on Live With Me just fucking destroy me.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin - Bimbo's 365 in SF on February 21st
    * Jeff Mangum - Fox Theater in Oakland on April 10th

Five Years of Coachella Glory: 2007 - 2011 (skipping 2012, maybe I'll be back in '13?)

Listen to EP a few more times, guys. Get some acid too.

I actually haven't heard the live tour tracks yet. I'll get on that today!

I was hoping united snakes would be an indicator... that one was killer. definitely a slightly different approach.

"Pray for Rain" is pretty good song, but it has one major problem that is a great example of what I was trying to get at. The songs starts to go somewhere interesting around 3:40, and gets there at 4:20. It should end at around 5:20, instead, they repeat the first verse starting at 5:27 like they just copy and pasted it there, and then the songs ends like that. Lame.

Starts out creepy, slowly becomes jubilant, becomes creepy again just to let you know the creepiness is not gone for good. I like.

False Flags is excellent and was a good opener live when I saw their last tour a few times.

Stoked for the new full length record.

No such thing as saying too many times that Paul/GV NEEDS to make sure they are at Coachella 2010. There are a few bands I think to myself how fortunate I am to have seen live. MA is one of them and I'm always hoping for at least one more opportunity.

Btw, Tool is my favorite 'big' band. Sorry again about the asshat meatheads in '06, MA.

What I find odd is despite the crowd response Massive Attack got opening for Tool in 06, Tricky actually got a warm reception from the crowd when he had opened for them, go fig.

    Yes.
The song is too boring to be as long as it is.
And it sounds like a TV ON THE RADIO song, rather than MA..

I tried chalking it up to the fact that Tool hadn't played in a long time and people were just gettin antsy. But there was one girl next to me who would not put a clamp on sayin shiat like "Come on, get off the stage- Tooool!". I finally asked her to kindly put a sock in it and that some people were there to see both bands. I got a quizzical look and she continued with her berating of MA.

Anyway, Tool has a habit of letting unsusual and musically diverse acts go on before them without much care or thought given to what their "fans" might think. See Melt Banana. I gotta say tho, in hindsight nothing comes close to watching the meatheads get uppity during MBV's holocaust bit at APW.

    Oh, Happy Thanksgiving all!

Massive Attack gave us an update on some retitled songs appearing on Heligoland:

"Quick update on the tracklisting: 'Atlas Air' is Marrakesh, 'Flat Of The Blade' is Bulletproof Love and 'Girl I Love You' is 16 Seater. More soon.. Thanks."

    Happy Thanksgiving fuckers.

There you go, BS. Bulletproof Love makes the album.

God I hope that's just the promotional copy album art.

Oh cool! 16 Seater is good stuff.
If he lets us know that one of the songs is ALL I WANTED and/or MAROONED, then I will be a happy camper.

ALL I WANTED is the one song from the 08 tour that stuck with me.
Despite only remembering the lyrics "aaand alll i waaanteeed" off hand.

orly? I always wondered how those shows went. I just love how Tool has treated the west coast to such openers as King Crimson and Tricky, yet it's always some shitty growling metal band like Messhugah when I happen to see them.

and to get back on topic, Massive Attack seriously needs to come back and play Detroit in 2010 and make up for 2006's visa problems.

Album art definitely can influence how certain songs are perceived, I would argue that yeah. Then again if you're listening on an ipod shuffle or something and have no way to view the artwork then I suppose it's a moot point.

In 2006? Well, I remember reading that both Mike Patton and Massive Attack enjoyed working together on the Peeping Tom album... but they both felt they could create a better song together. So that is why MA invited Mike Patton back to work on this album. Guess it just didnt work out...

Judging a book by its cover isn't the best strategy.

It's not so much the art work as much as it is D & G on the cover.
