That one has definitely been a solid winner for me all year. I go back to it at least once a month and find new things going on.

I wanna talk about Billy Bao's Urban Disease some more. As I was putting together my year end list the last couple of days this kept bugging me. If my list was based on emotional or raw impact, it would be in my top 10 for sure... But I feel like I should be able to have a handle on what an album is about before tossing it onto a list... After half a dozen very, very intent listens, I'm still struggling with it. I feel like in six months or so with another half dozen listens I'll finally start to get a grasp on it. Either way, it's definitely captivating, but one of the most frustrating albums I've ever encountered.

So, hey, did anyone else know that Glenn Branca released something called The Ascension: the Sequel this year? I just finished downloading it and am going to give it a spin in just a sec, but woah.

I listened to the four "short" pieces on The Ascension: The Sequel, and they're spectacular. This is a sequel in that it's Branca working with rock instrumentation and blending his trademark guitar orchestra sound with the more driving force that made The Ascension one of those perfect pieces of music. The four shorter pieces don't have quite as much of the dynamic guitar interplay on first listen, but they are all driving and intense pieces with shifting melodies and tons of guitar noise. Can't wait to listen to Lesson #3 (For Steve Reich); with that name and the company of Lessons 1 and 2, it has quite a lot to live up to.

Just listened to How I Got Over for the first time, the album The Roots put out this year. It blows Kanye's album out of the water in every category, lol!

I can't believe I missed out on Four Tets release last year. It is the best album I have heard this year.

He wasn't even announced on the poster for this show but at Gold Panda/SBTRKT last night, Dam Mantle came out and did a killer ~30 minute set. My boyfriend immediately bought his EP, Grey. For those of you that like Gold Panda and Forest Swords, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Just got my hands on Melatonin Magic by Canibus (2010). It's ridiculously good.

I think Rebong sounds similar to some of the Forest Sword tracks.

I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere... but I'm listening to Throat by Little Women for the first time right now. Holy fuck this album is awesome. Had it since Dec and never played it, started it randomly and was instantly hooked when all that noise hit. Perfect balance of noisy jazz and calmer moments.
