^ I tried that the other day and it looked like all the links were dead. I could have been doing it wrong though.
new Interpol is wretched. this coming from a lass who adored TOTBL and parts of Antics.
While I generally agree with what people have already said about the new Swans album, I'd like to add that even a run-of-the-mill Swans album is better than no Swans album at all (and is still superior to much of the rest of what 2010 has had to offer).
I'm enjoying the I Am Arrows album quite a bit. Wasn't expecting to, given it is the band that Andy Burrows formed after leaving Razorlight. More than a hint of The Shins and Brendan Benson in his songwriting.
New Swans also left me quite flat.
S. Carey, Bon Iver's percussionist, just released an album that is up for listening on NPR. He is opening for Tallest Man on Earth this tour. I haven't listened yet, but here is a link.
Forgot he was opening. I'll listen when I get home.

This is a little late but the new SSLYBY isn't half bad.
Also, Magic Kids sound like a Brian Wilson/ELO/Apples in Stereo-echoing chimera of awesomeness.

Matthew Dear's latest (Black City) is REALLY growing on me this past week. So much so that I'm considering buying one of his limited edition MDBC Totem he's selling. He always had the beats down, and I feel with this album he takes a step or two in the right direction (again) as a great songwriter. I love how dark the album feels, it may end up as one of my top 5 for the year...
I agree. I am addicted to the song "Slowdance" right now. I rarely listen to a song 2 times in a row when I'm listening to an album, but that song is the shit, and I always find myself hitting the back arrow when that song finishes. The entire album is great though, I keep finding things in every song that I love. Will be in my top ten for the year.
RAPE STOVE
white power?!
The first three tracks of Black City are still my favorite parts of that album.
I am not a huge fan of dubstep, but the new Safehouses EP from Pariah has some great moments on it. Like this song...
The next track "C-Beams" is really good too, but it's not YouTube-able. If you like Burial, check this out.
.
We have a very, very strong candidate for biggest disappointment of 2010 - Black Mountain's Wilderness Heart. I endured it today, and it is absolutely dreadful. Gone are the psychedelic trip-outs, the Zeppelin-ish riffs and, well, overall quality.
Amber has all but completely forsaken her outstanding ability to channel Surrealistic Pillow-era Grace Slick, and has instead become the Cher to Stephen McBean's Sonny in numerous songs of sing-songy bullshit.
The title track does somewhat bring what this band does best back to the forefront, but even then it feels forced.
This album is so bad that I plan on eating my ticket to see them next week just so I can retain the untarnished positive memory of having seen them live last year when they had nothing but two stellar albums' worth of material to draw from.
Two thumbs way, way down.

If it's any consolation, that review was an album's worth of entertainment in itself.
That's disappointing news.
Wilderness is such a good song.
Good one. Also check out Spirit's Rejoice and Holy Ghost if you get the chance.
that's basically what he was working towards... these ultra-deconstructed versions of typical jazz standards. the best part is listening to three or versions he did of the same song...
New Thermals is the same badass shit they put out every couple of years. Fuck yeah.
