Well... Beach House and Laura Veirs are already out there... The trickle will become a flood pretty quickly here.

The Beach House is gorgeous on first listen. Nothing groundbreaking, but pretty as hell.

2010 seems like it's going to be really exciting. A lot of artists releasing follow-ups to big time records.

Early albums I look forward to in 2010: Magnetic Fields, Spoon, Hot Chip, Vampire Weekend and the Soft Pack (fiormerly the Muslims). All should play Coachella 2010!

Saw Vampire Weekend last Saturday night, and to be honest I really couldn't tell the new songs from the old ones aside from the lack of familiarity. Especially with bmack having said that Horchata is all over the place or however he described it, which I didn't notice. Contra seems to be more of the same, which is fine. I mean, with the very pigeonholed sound that they have, what do you really expect them to do?
    8/31 - Sleep - Troubadour (?)
    9/05 - The Rentals - Fonda (?)
    9/11 - Swans - Roxy
    9/13 - Owen Pallett - El Rey (?)
    9/17 - Buzzcocks - Fonda (?)

Just got Contra. Most of it is more of the same. However, I really like "Giving Up the Gun."

So, wow.... the new Beach House... I would recommend this to virtually anyone... I have listened to it 4 times today, and each listen has given me so many new things I'm in love with, and everytime I hear it I admire it more. They're not a band that relies so much on aesthetics and atmosphere anymore, but a band that crafts some brilliant fucking pop songs. No doubt they've been influenced by their pals in Grizzly Bear's own evolution. This may very well be the best new album I've heard since Veckatimest, no exaggeration.

I'm late on this but I totally agree with everything you said. They really stepped it up with the melodies. At first I thought it peaked a little early with Norway and Walk In The Park, but the back end of it is creeping inside my skin and they catch me singing out of nowhere. You said it with the emphasis on pop. God damn gorgeous. Walk In The Park is my favorite song and this will be in my top ten at years end.

I can't tell if it's just because I am going through a massive Beach House phase right now to begin with, and that today was pretty much the perfect day to first hear it, driving up and down the coast in late Autumn... or if this is really as brilliant as I'm sensing... I'd love a second opinion from someone who's given it a few listens.

I've only given it one listen so far, I very rarely listen to the same thing twice in a day, but I really liked the new Beach House.

That's the new Xiu Xiu right? It'll be interesting to see what's changed since McElroy left.
