I got my first pay-cheque (or check, in America) from my Graduate Assistant job here in San Diego, last week. A few days ago I went to my bank (Citibank) and deposited the cheque into my account. It was the first time I had ever tried to deposit a cheque in America. Yesterday, I got this letter:
So, just to clarify: I deposited $1026.33, and the bank is not prepared to allow me to access ANY of that money, but 90 years from now, on January 1st 2099 - by which time I will almost certainly be dead - they will give me $826.00 of it. No mention of the other $200.33 at all. Excellent money-saving tactics there, Citibank.
I see an angry visit to the bank in my near future.
