KROQ Almost Acoustic XMas Speculation 2009

Any guesses or confirmations for this year yet? I'm guessing if they do the typical two nights of mainstream vs. alternative/indie, it will look something like this:

Night One:
AFI
Rise Against
Alice In Chains
30 Seconds to Mars
Hollywood Undead
Cage the Elephant

Night Two:
Muse
Phoenix
Paramore
Silversun Pickups
The Bravery
White Rabbits

As for headliners, I don't know. Green Day? Weezer? Pearl Jam? Muse for 2nd day obviously. The lineups look the same every year IMO anyway, trade a few bands in and out.

I don't think AFI is big enough to headline the shittier day of the two, so I'm going to guess that since there really is no other option, Muse will do those honors and the 2nd day of more "indier" bands will just be a good balance of popular indie alternative acts. It'll still be a more solid lineup top to bottom compared to day 1. Jimmy Eat World headlined the thing a few years back, so its not out of the ordinary.

These radio station events are okay.

They can be fun but generally get annoying.

Dead by Sunrise should be no-brainers for Night 1 since they're playing Friday at Las Vegas.

Silversun Pickups and Paramore will be in Europe so won't play the KROQ show.

Has Live 105 ever pull off grabbing the same headliner as KROQ? Usually Live 105's headliners can only be worthy of subheadliner status at KROQ (e.g. The Killers opening for The Cure in 2008, Modest Mouse opening for Muse in 2007, The Killers opening for Foo Fighters in 2006, White Stripes opening for Depeche Mode/Coldplay in 2005).

So I'm guessing for this year Muse and AFI will only be subheadliners while bigger KROQ bands will be billed as headliner. I'm thinking one or two of the following: Foo Fighters/Sublime/System of a Down/No Doubt/Blink-182/Incubus/Pearl Jam/Red Hot Chili Peppers/Smashing Pumpkins

while I don't think Pearl jam will be there, I don't agree with your reasonings. They've had Depeche Mode play (although that may have been at the Shrine) when they were selling out multiple nights at Arrowhead Pond and The Forum.

Pearl Jam and KROQ have had a good relationship over the years too

EDIT: Depeche Mode played a Gibson one too a couple years ago

I forgot that Blink 182 reunited this year. I'd definitely put them down in the running as headliners then with AFI subbing. Back to Muse on Day 2. They headlined day 2 two years ago by the way.

Outside of LA and San Diego radio stations, pretty much all the other radio station DJs across the country sound like fucking strip club MCs when they're on the air. And X103.9 is no exception. Bobby Sato or whatever his name is is as lame as it fucking gets.
