I was overly harsh with him. The Black Keys put out one weird, inauspisious album but it was good and they needed a change anyway. And I'd like to hear the next album Interpol puts out even if I'mn't looking forward to it. I stand by Yeah Yeah Yeahs being not worth listneing to, though.

I should probably point out that Fever To Tell is making my top 50 of the decade and the first two EPs are also amazing and fantastic... but wow, the drop off was precipitous.

I can listen to their most recent albums... they just don't make much of a case for why I should choose them over anything else.

I agree with this. I'd also say there has been a dramatic drop off in their live shows.

The original context was a comment on Randy including them in the thread about bands what you'd listen to forever. My negative statement about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs may accurately be expanded to "the material they are putting out now - and for the last 5 years - is not worth listening to even now, much less forever from now."

"And I can see listening to the first two EPs and the first album - all of which was out by 6 and a half years ago - but that is such an insignificant quantity of material that someone who lists them as one of three bands they will be listening to forever they either are unnaturally obsessive over that early material or they think the more recent material is worthwhile. If it is the first case that is a sign of bad time budgeting judgment, if it is the latter case that is a sign of bad taste in music."

I see many (not you John) are judging them by their Coachella 2009 performance which I agree was lackluster and dare I say a bit boring but of the 3 additional shows I saw them perform this year the Coachella performance was by far the weakest of them. Their shows at the Marquee and Sasquatch were phenominal. A beautiful set list and an enthusiastic crowd played their part in this. I do however like Show Your Bones and It's Blitz though the It's Blitz songs are much better live than on album IMO. Karen O can put on not only a fun show but also interact with the crowd with her stage performance. Overall I find them to be one of the better touring acts in music today.

agreed. I have enjoyed her performances at club shows more than the festival sets I've seen.
