So you are going to glasto, coachella, and primavera and muse is almost definite for the first two and possible for the third...will you be avoiding all 3 sets in such a scenario?

I don't know why they would do that. this festival has so much credibility. so... they decide to get the festival whores of 2010 to play? why? do they not like being tasteful any more? want to experiment a little?

I highly doubt Muse ends up playing this festival. It just doesn't fit.

I don't buy any of that geographical/open availability bullshit. Muse should NOT be at Primavera and I'm sure the fest organizers realize that.

Also, I am seriously considering going to this to catch Orbital's set as the start to my vacation. Would that be worth it, or should I try to see them somewhere else?

Okay, the wife is sold on it. We'll probably end up doing Barcelona>Paris>Amsterdam. I've started doing some research, but has anyone here actually been to this festival before? Based on the pictures, the set up seems pretty minimal. Is it a good festival experience-wise? For comparison, I am also considering Isle of Wright, and Sonar.

sonfohal(chris) has been numerous times, so has Mark O. Im sure chris will answer your questions, and go back a page, I asked a few things, he answered em. You know itll be more likely Isle of Wight will get rain? And this fest is cheaper by a lot.

Parc del Forum (the place were Primavera Sound is located since 2005) is really huge (6 stages playin bands simultaneously with space for 60.000 ppl more or less). They not sold out on past editions but on 2010 they're celebrating the 10th anniversary and the line-up seems to be attractive enough to sell out.

They normally die down in the beginning of the year. January and February are typically the best months to buy international flights.

Under a $1,000 is not that bad for a roundtrip flight imo. I am sure you are seeing flights for $300 more or so, but you gotta look around some more. What I tried to book in theory was only $935.

Just a few thousand (I'd have to check the exact #). What they did for Portishead (at least) was you had to get another ticket (2Euro or so) for the auditorium specifically and, iirc, it was only available on the day of the show. I distinctly remember getting there early. I can't remember if I had to get a ticket for the Swell Season's set in the auditorium.

When the auditorium opened up for Portishead, it was kind of a free-for-all and I ended up sitting in an aisleway. It was an astonishing show overall. I wish I had been closer so I could have taken part in the stage invasion at the end!

In '08, they also had a myspace tent where various acts would swing by and play a few songs; no stage, no big PA, they just stood and played and everyone gathered around. Saw Malkmus play solo and caught a bit of Man Man doing the same.

    Ah, found it:

    1 PIXIES booked
2 ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (1294 votes) no plans for then but could change... (PANDA BEAR booked)
3 PORTISHEAD (998) contacted, touring next summer but complicated (headliner slot shortage)
4 BELLE AND SEBASTIAN (961) will tour this year, negotiations going well
5 THE ARCADE FIRE (945) will tour only from june or later, depends when album is finished
    6 WILCO (924) booked
7 BUILT TO SPILL (896) negotiations are very advanced
8 PULP (812) no plans for the band to reform so far
9 YO LA TENGO (790) on tour in spain shortly before the festival so no. maybe as Condo Fucks...
10 LCD SOUNDSYSTEM (746) on tour in the US at the time
11 THE WHITE STRIPES (670) no plans for next year, Jack will keep playing w/ The Dead Weather
12 PJ HARVEY (660) good relations, offer made but has no idea about her plans for next year yet
13 SONIC YOUTH (634) no plans to do anything, festival has no more free headliner slots either
14 NEIL YOUNG (614) will most likely tour europe again but about a month after the festival
    15 15 THE FALL (584) booked
16 MOGWAI (560) offer will only be placed if other headliners won't play (not enough slots)
17 LISABÍ (554) on hiatus with no plans to play anywhere for a while
18 BOREDOMS (550) difficult due to production issues, band wants to play and offer is in place
19 WIRE (530) band definitely wants to play, offer was placed
20 BATTLES (504) not planning to tour europe this year but the organisers will insist
21 SHELLAC (492) organisers claim is up to them to play the festival whenever they want
22 MY BLOODY VALENTINE (442) ? no info given but highly unlikely
    23 MODEST MOUSE (438) ? no info
24 ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS (424) ? no info
25 GRIZZLY BEAR (414) ? no info. will come back only if they want to, if you know what i mean...
    26 DINOSAUR JR (354) ? no info
27 BON IVER (336) ? no info but will very likely be on hiatus by then
28 DEERHUNTER (292) ? no info but unlikely, played the previous two years. maybe Atlas Sound...
29 LES SAVY FAV (288) ? no info
30 THE GO-BETWEENS (222) obviously impossible but Robert Forster could play

I'm going to have to wait on this to see if any European festivals have Orbital and Portishead.
