I've been studying Neon Indian for quite some time. They are not a band. They are a failed high school talent show fooling hipsters nationwide.

Vega is better than Neon Indian which is their other side project.

Their album got an 8.4 or something on P4K but I thought it was terrible. Then I heard they would be at Sasquatch so I revisited the album and then watched youtubes. The youtubes are what reminded me of a losing high school talent show act.

    I guess i'm missing something.

Why put so much effort into it? If you don't like it, you don't like it. Move on and listen to something else. Sounds like you wasted some time on Neon Indian.

Superchunk and Dirty Projectors make this totally worth going to if you live in the area. Superchunk was so great at Coachella last year, it was just way too fucking hot at the outdoor theater for that set.

    Agree!

I'm meeting up some friends in Boulder and making this a long weekend trip with the Westword Music Showcase in the middle.

Are you kidding me? If I didn't put effort or repeat listens into bands, half the stuff I like I would have never known and I would just like disposable garbage for the most part that sounded good for a week or a two and then I would be sick of it.

Two albums off the top of my head that I didn't find appealing during initial listens were Funeral and Boxer. Two albums that I can forever listen to and never get sick of at this point.

Yeah, not helping. I felt like I was watching an SNL spoof of some bad 80's generic techno. The drummer and guitar player are alright though. Even the guitar solo at times reminded me of some pseudo 80's hair metal though. Like I said, I just enjoy making fun of them. Dude is a funny dancer when he gets into pressing a button or singing.

Please point me in the direction of some bad 80s generic techno, because if that's what Neon Indian sound like I need to pick up some albums.

I fucking hate ghost land observatory with a passion, but for $10 bucks you can beat it and I can get belligerent and boo them endlessly.

Who do you recommend checking out from the local bands? Have you been to this in years prior? I imagine all the bigger bands will play the outdoor stage, and the bars/clubs in the Golden Triangle will have the local bands. It would be nice if each venue hosted bands of a certain genre.

I hope I have time to get away from the Outdoor stage to see some of the bands below (*=bands I'm more interested in seeing). Are any of these groups better than others?:

Oh yeah, and saying Neon Indian sounds like this group JOY is the equivalent of saying Calexico sounds like Los Tigres del Norte.
