you can have a charity but not have it officially registered as a non-profit right off the bat. takes a lot of time and effort to do so, from filling out forms, running required ads in the paper, deciding on a board of directors, paying hundreds of dollars in filing fees and so on. after that is all done it can take 3-9 months to get word back from the irs. the fact that she has spent that much time and money for such a stupid thing blows my mind. ending racism is not a bad thing, her description of what she thinks will work is.
