The 'Convince Me I'm Wrong In Three Songs" thread

so if you've read the Pearl Jam thread you saw my challenge to folks there. I don't think I like Pearl Jam and have asked them for 3 songs to convince me otherwise. 3 songs is better than a whole album because if you're like me, you don't have the patience to wade through an entire album of a band you don't think you like.

Yes I know that 3 songs doesn't give you the full experience of a band's catalog. There's no depth or richness. I know it's very limiting. But that's sort of the point: give us a little teaser to whet our appetite for more, or to show us we were right all along.

I think this approach has merit for wider use. Hence this thread. here you can:

- post a request to 'be convinced'. "Hey, I think Radiohead is overrated, I don't get the hoopla, you have three songs to show me what I've been missing". I think this works best if you make the request sincerely and with an open mind. If you say "show me about Daft Punk" only to set up a "Daft Punk sucks, this is garbage" reaction, you're not in the spirit of the thread. (You'd be right, of course, but that's not what I'm getting at.)


- respond to others' requests to be convinced. Ideally this would be posting links to three song playlists, but whatever works is fine. Lists of song names would be less good but at least it's something.

I've always found The Pixies to be an uninteresting band. Their songs feel flat and the lyrics have always seemed silly... Mostly the band seems to just try to hard without really offering anything terribly interesting musically...

Well that's the whole point behind the Pixies...their lyrics are supposed to seem silly and pointless...usually it's just Frank Black (or Black Francis or whatever) singing about UFO's and aliens and what other odds and ends seem to interest him.

Tom already said he listened to 10 when it came out... and since then he has passed off Pearl Jam. So suggesting him a song from 10 probably won't convince him.

Tom, I offer you one Pearl Jam song. I'm not sure how many people are going to post three songs in this thread or if there is a limit or a cap or a resident expert for each band but I was not a Pearl Jam fan until probably the Vitalogy tour. That said I love this song off of VS.

I couldn't leave for work without presenting at least one reason why I love the Pixies. Yes, their lyrics are silly and make no sense at all to the listener but there is no denying the energy in their music. Kim and Black Francis and their little vocal interplay on this song just makes me want to sing along every time. Their music just grabs me and it won't let go.
