    Default Other Festival Recommendations

What other festivals do you guys recommend? I'm looking for ideas for next year. I'm trying to find something outside of the states, the more dance oriented the better. Any ideas? Has anyone been to Zoukout? What about Pukkelpop? Does Japan have any solid festivals?

Japan has Summer Sonic and Fuji Rock festivals.
I hear both are really good.

Shambhala Festival is in the Kootenay region of BC, and is literally 4 days of NON STOP music, it has 5 stages and is mostly electronic with a few other bands here and there, pretty wicked... If you do drugs its probably the best place to do them, and its loads of awesome...

    but

I've never gone I'm writing from my friend's amazing experiences....

    next year maybe

Pukkelop has two dance stages. One purely for DJ sets and the other for live dance acts, but normally finishes around 2am.

    Primavera has a dance arena from 10pm - 6am.

The Boiler Room--DJ sets only--closed at 4am every night and was open from 9pm until 4am the first night of camping. The Dance Hall--mostly live electronic music--usually runs until 1-2am.

That said, Pukkelpop is ridiculously fun, especially if you're into electronic music. Though it's a little more off the beaten festival path, there were 60k people each day this year. I had a total blast this year and got a great mix of all kinds of music.

Thurs : Bon Iver > Passion Pit > Dr. Lectroluv > Them Crooked Vultures > Beirut > Crookers > My Bloody Valentine
Friday: Metric > Buraka Som Sistema > Fake Blood > The Jesus Lizard > Birdy Nam Nam > Fever Ray > Squarepusher > Vitalic > Kraftwerk
Sun: Gang Gang Dance > Dinosaur Jr. > Anti-Flag > Klaxons > Dave Clarke > Tocadisco > Boiler Room

    Rad!

I'm seriously considering Pukkelpop for 2010 (along with Coachella). I'd love to go to Fuji Rock, but it looks like airfare to Japan is $2,000. Is this usually the case?

Shambhala looks a little too dirty, even for me.

I've never been or anything, but based on line ups i have seen in the past i would say Creamfields all the way for electronic music. I've only really been to Ultra and all the California music festivals, but every year the line up at Creamfields is amazing.

I would say Creamfields if you are looking for the best line up of electronic music, i've never been to any festival outside the states, but the line up at Creamfields is always amazing.

Here's a pic I took from my time at Fuji Rock last year. Needless to say, I recommend you take the plunge too if you can afford it.

^^^indeed..weekend pass is like $50 or something, its crazy.

theres no doubt about creamfields having a stellar lineup. they do a great job of presenting a massive european dance event.

ive been back home for movement this year and last and i definatley plan on heading back for the 10 year anniversary in 2010. my entire weekend cost like $800 and i had a blast, not to mention i got to see alot of the originators of techno play in thier home city.

the fest site is right in downtown on the river, so you can basically walk to it from whatever hotel you are staying at AND they allow re-entry throughout the day. then theres the crazy after party scene all weekend...

    highly reccomended imho

Lick an orange, it tastes like an orange. Lick a pineapple, it tastes like a pineapple. Go ahead, try it. Try some more. The strawberries taste like strawberries. The snozzberries taste like snozzberries! We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. Come along, come along.

i can only speak for Glastonbury and Roskilde.

They are very fun. There's a myriad of smaller one and two night festies throughout Europe. I'd stay closer to the Med where the people and the weather are warmer. 8^)
