I don't think there's very many sites with the same popularity as Myspace where anyone, literally anyone, can post whatever music they want for the world. I think that has a lot to do with it.

ferreals...purevolume was doing that shit wayy before myspace. for awhile myspace was good for bands b/c it had a strong social network already in place. then it became a place for every "experimental/ghettotech/folk" band on the planet to post their crap music and spam friend requests to people that wanted a higher friend count. now its impossible to get big b/c of myspace. at least music is moving to the blogs now so there is some sort of filter for the truly atrocious stuff...
