Are you going to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight?

Anyone going to try to catch the meteor shower tonight? I'm in North San Diego County now and I'm trying to figure out a good place to watch it tonight. The beach, perhaps?

The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.

In North America, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but late Tuesday night and also Wednesday night could prove fruitful, weather permitting.

The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors.

i'm going to try, but i doubt i'll be able to try during the peak times. i have a new telescope though, so i really hope i can catch this. it might be hard though because as lovely as the view is from my balcony and as far from civilization as i am, i still have some light pollution that is making for less-than-optimal viewing conditions. guess we'll see!

i live in shitty old Temecula, but we have the Tenaja Falls roads and a little place called the cul de sac where we can get a ridiculously good view of the shower. last night fog rose up past where we were sitting on the mountains and we could only see about 3 feet in front of us. prity.

yeah I was considering top of the world, that's a really cool place, used to live right near there and went quite often...it can definitely become foggy/cloudy at times though...I'm thinking of heading the opposite direction, somewhere in the Santiago Canyon area

Red indicates heavy light pollution, white indicates no visibility whatsoever, blue is very good of visibility, dark grey/purple is awesome visibility, etc.

Last year I was at my parents' house, where there is as little light pollution as you can get in a lightly populated area. I took an inflatable mattress, laid out on the drive way, listened to Vision Creation Newsun and watched the stars fly.
