    Default What exactly is Bro-step?

So as dubsteps popularity gets bigger we all have been hearing this term get thrown around more and more as well. I thought i knew what brostep was, but at this point i am not really even sure of the meaning is (much like the term hipster). So lets try and figure this out....

Everything is bro step. Has more to do with bros stepping and less to do with any genre.
Just like hipster. Retards that don't know what things are or don't understand them use the term bro or hipster to diss.

There isn't much going on in these peoples lives. The forum is a last resort to build self confidence and pride.
If thousands of music nerds think something is true, than it must be right?

Skrillex, Liquid Stranger, HULK, Feed Me, Zeds Dead = Brostep

Caspa, Benga, Burial, Fantastic Mr Fox = Dubstep

It's a very distinct and different sound between the two. Not all Dubstep is brostep, and not all brostep is good. Brostep has worse music and worse crowds than Dubstep in general.

Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

It is dubstep that uses the original bass wobble technique on the mids and highs in a synth, and makes the higher pitched squeel-wobble the focal point of the song. You see, dubstep used to be about the bass, and the wobbling of the bass. Then one day some producers (I think Doctor P's Sweet Shop was the original tipping point song) decided to use the wobble in the highs to make a screechy noise, which changed dubstep forever. You see, purely bass dubstep never would have reached the mainstream audience (the bro's) because you need some good speakers to really hear what was so sweet about the bass wobble. When they started wobbling the highs, everyone could hear it on their laptop speakers and this type of dubstep (namely Skrillex, Rusko, Doctor P, and Flux Pavilion) exploded in popularity.

The term brostep came about because this new type of dubstep, which led to aggro bro-type people moshing to the music instead of dancing, appealed way more to guys than it did girls. People started noticing that only guys (and a majority of them being quite douchey and saying "bro" a lot) and no girls went to these shows (like have you seen a Skrillex crowd lately), so people started calling the music brostep.

I can still handle the brostep that has a catchy rhythm and dancey, poppy feel to it, but there's some producers who put almost no melody into it and just try to make the most disgusting sounds possible (borgore, datsik, etc.). I call this stuff derpstep, cuz there's no thought, emotion, or soul to it.

I like that^. Because the breux can hear wobble on laptop tweeter via higher frequency wobbling.

Dubstep can be smooth. A cool cat in a smokey bar in london. Talks easy, confident, well dressed and is slick like James Bond. Brostep is that 22 year old from Missouri. Has his slighty lifted beat up truck he goes "muddin" in. Any loud loises attract him like guns and fire crackers. Nothing smooth about this kid. Usually a stain on his shirt and would go behind your back for just about anything. BZZZZZZZZZZZZWOMP

I am not saying those kind of artists are good, and this may just be for Colorado, but in my experience girls LOVE what you call brostep (Skrillex included). Girls also love the likes of David Guetta (and clowns like him), and he is just the worst

Really? Maybe a few girls like Skrillex (the emo ones do), and a few might go to his shows, but you definitely won't see many on the dancefloor at his shows. Did you see any in that Ultra video? Brostep attracts douchey guys to come try to mosh on the dancefloor and this scares all the girls (and me) away.

It's called dancing, not pushing! Learn how to find a groove people!!!

Here's a good frame of reference:

    James Blake on Brostep:
“I think the dubstep that has come over to the US, and certain producers-- who I can't even be bothered naming-- have definitely hit upon a sort of frat-boy market where there's this macho-ism being reflected in the sounds and the way the music makes you feel. And to me, that is a million miles away from where dubstep started. It's a million miles away from the ethos of it. It's been influenced so much by electro and rave, into who can make the dirtiest, filthiest bass sound, almost like a pissing competition, and that's not really necessary. And I just think that largely that is not going to appeal to women. I find that whole side of things to be pretty frustrating, because that is a direct misrepresentation of the sound as far as I'm concerned.” - james blake

bro-step i would say is just the dubstep that appeals more to people who are not really taking the time to find out where the DUB in dubstep has it's roots. this right here bumps and yet doesn't make me want to mosh i'll be.

Brostep. Ha. Brostep is a subgenre of Dubstep. Rusko created it (not a bad thing). Borgore and everyone off of Rotten Records came along and shat on it. Then Skrillex took it to a whole other level of Brodom. But chicks like Borgore and Skrillex. So is it even brostep? I'm from Cali so those type of producers attract girlies. To me, brostep is anything with transformer noises set to a beat at around 140 BPMs.
