do YOU think we landed on the moon in 1969?

in honour of today's lunar landing anniversary, i was just curious, do you think we landed on the moon or do you think it was a hoax? provide some thoughts to back-up your answer if you can.

i personally think we landed, but i would not be in complete and utter shock if it was disproven. a lot of the conspiracy stuff has some merit; however i just don't know enough about it all to really take a firm stance on either side. it seems like too big to be a hoax, but who knows. and i base most of my belief on that video of buzz aldrin punching the doubter though

i'd like to hear more thoughts from people who have actually studied this closer though, what do you think?

With the extremely heated international race to get there first 40+ years ago now, I can see why we would fake it if that meant winning. And to me it's fun to hear conspiracy theories about it, kinda interesting to ponder the greatest achievement in human history being a total hoax and the millions of people that would have been fooled if it was so.

But I think we really landed. I listened to a good amount of NPR yesterday on the topic and the scholars they had on were saying some pretty convincing things.

Guy on NPR yesterday says we don't keep going to the moon because we're not in the Cold War anymore; we don't have competition to get there, so we're not motivated to do it anymore. At least we're sending shit to Mars. I also heard there's a tentative plan to get back to the moon by 2020, but goddamn that seems a long way off. I wish we'd have so much more space exploration plans in the works, includng sending people to Mars to live there.

I wish we'd have so much more space exploration plans in the works, includng sending people to Mars to live there.

I tend to side with the camp who realize there's already tons of underfunded shit here that is more important to deal with immediately than space exploration. Especially when they make public the cost of those rovers and stuff, it pains me to think what good could have come out of all that money if we used it on our own planet.
