    Default Virgin Festival Ontario 2009

Lineup is finally up. it's about time the organizers got their acts together. Highlights for me are Pet Shop Boys, Pixies, Grizzly Bear. Also, this will be one of the very last NIN shows, maybe ever, so Trent will definitely pull out all the stops on this one.

it's a hell of a lot better than we got last year.

looks like there's camping with a group rate and onsite parking (like, park where you camp), and alcohol allowed. so this might actually be a fun weekend.

Pilgrim, are you compaining about a 2 hour drive?

Default Re: Virgin Festival Ontario 2009

Well, the driving sucks because unlike LA, most young people who live in Downtown Toronto don't have a car because of high rent costs, great public transit, the city having a great downtown lifestyle, etc.

This place is an hour and a half from the city...

I imagine maybe they'll have a shuttle bus service from Toronto. Otherwise I don't know how the hell all the downtown hipsters with skinny jeans are gonna get there.

We smoke a lot of weed up here. So Ben's music's right up our alley.

Yeah, Ben Harper over the Pixies? Didn't know there were so many brahs in Canada.

How the hell did Ben Harper pull off a headlining spot over The Pixies?

Because, while the Pixies are important alt/indie rock figureheads, they don't sell as many records or have as much mass appeal as Ben Harper.

same reason weezer "headlined" over them at lolla 05 and radiohead did at coachella. there's allllllways a bigger band.

Ben Harper at Sasquatch was really surprisingly good, IMO. I expected nothing and in fact would have left earlier, except my friends really dig him.

ben harper actually is quite good live. anybody go to this last year and know how it was scheduled? headliners against preheadliners, or all the big bands on one stage?

  21. #21

Default Re: Virgin Festival Ontario 2009

I've gone to this every year since its inception 4 years ago. The venue's changed this year but assuming consistency, there's basically 3 stages: Main Stage, second stage and DJ tent.

So yeah, every band of significant size will typically play the main stage one after another. So Saturday for example, the 3 closing acts on main stage will be Franz, Pixies, Ben harper back-to-back. Grizzly Bear will probably play main stage too, but earlier in the day.

That's one advantage of smaller festivals like this compared to monsters like Coachella and Lolla, is you get to see most of the big acts on the poster if you're so inclined and don't usually have to worry about conflicts too much.

Just bought a Sunday ticket so I could see NIN. It's the night before classes start but it's only a border cross and an hour drive from Buffalo, so I thought it would be worth it even though I've heard some bad things about the V festivals.

god damn it. god fucking DAMN IT!!

WHY would they move it to the amphitheater?! it's the single worst venue in the country. THE worst. it's a twenty year old metal shitbox. and how in fuck's sake do they plan to pull off multiple stages?!

ech. if anyone from the board is coming to this, I'm happy to party, and equally happy to offer people a place to stay, but I don't think I'm going to actually go- I hate hate HATE the amphitheater. maybe I'll go sunday. maybe not. I live about a 25 minute streetcar ride from the venue.

Festivals should never be at amphitheaters, except for the Gorge.

okay, no, fuck this. I just checked, and the only tickets left for sunday are 400 level and lawns.

    fuck this bullshit. FUCK!

we finally get a half decent lineup, and virgin ruins it by turning it from a festival into a two night molson raping

I'm ok with the move. This makes it a much more reasonable drive for me, it's only 4 hours instead of being like 5 and a half. And I wasn't entirely sold on the camping anyway, now I'm only spending one night in toronto, the other two at my best friend's place in buffalo

right on. do you already have your ticket? I'm still not going -no good tickets left- but I'm happy to party/put you up at my place for the night you're in toronto. also, if you need to... find... certain things... I'm sure I could help you out :P

If it's closeness and affordability you're looking for these places will do the trick:
