i've been thinking about going for the last few years, but it always falls on the same weekend as lolla or APW.
usually they have a pretty good line up, tho

Muse isnt happening, they couldnt anyway. They are opening for U2 in DC, and that negates anything they could do on their own. Blink is playing, deal with it.

Last year had a great lineup. Blink 182 and at an amphitheater? Fail.
9/10 Swans @ Roxy, 9/17 Karen O at Masonic Lodge, 9/19 Tokimonsta @ El Rey, 9/20 Chvrches @ Tower Theatre, 9/30 Cibo Matto @ the Roxy, 10/3-4 Desert Stars, 10/9 Zola Jesus @ El Rey, 10/16 Massive Attack @ Greek Theater, 10/22-25 CMJ, 10/26 Asobi Seksu & Slowdive @ Royale

I've been the past two years and had a good time. I'll only go if there's a dance tent though (or some astonishingly sick lineup but that's unlikely).

Blink may or may not be playing. Yeah, the rumored date was that last weekend of August, but it's kinda weird now, because the friday AND monday before/after the festival both are booked. You'd expect them to have a day or two off before/after the festival to set things up and take things down. Also its getting closer to the (supposed) date and still no word. Some people are suggesting it will go down in late september like the first one did.

I'm still bummed that it went from a 2 day to a 1 day event.

It sounds more like Download now.

Eeeeeh... Weezer and Blink 182 is such a downgrade from The Police and The Smashing Pumpkins.

EDIT: Oh wait... It's free? I guess it isn't a downgrade then. Worth it.

Not bad for free. So how does it work? They just let in the first 20,000 people? Site isn't loading on this shitty hostel computer.

you'll have to get tickets thru ticketmaster. Apparently, tickets for previous V-fest buyers (includes me) will go on sale from 10 to 10 today, but i'm not sure how that works. regular tickets will go onsale saturday.

also, apparently, more good news: ticketmaster will waive the convenience fees for this event. awesomeeeee

People will complain about anything. I'm sure there will be more people complaining about it even though it's free.

I'm sure you could pay people to go to a concert and they would still complain.

I just wonder how they are going to handle people who get tickets and have no intention of going.

There are always those people who get stuff because it's free just to get it.

what i want to know is how they're going to handle scalpers. if this sells out, scalpers are going to have a field day with this.
