    Default Gobi '09 appreciation

i hope this isnt too redundant, but i just want to comment on how great the gobi lineup was this year. usually, i dont spend a lot of time in there, but it was awesome this year to see great acts giving it there best even though its the smallest and usually most overlooked stage. just some acts that were excellent for me:
    themselves
    friendly fires
    booker t
    devendra banhart
    brian jonestown massacre
    tinariwen
    a place to bury strangers
    GANG GANG DANCE

anyway, just curious if others felt the same way

The Gobi rules!! I've seen some of the best sets in there. This year's Gobi highlight for me was K'naan.

i've maintained every year that the Gobi >>>> Mojave...

    last year:
    Battles
    Santogold
dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip
    Bonde do Role
    Holy Fuck
    Does It Offend You, Yeah?
    Sons & Daughters
    Akron/Family

    this year:
    The Orb
    Amanda Palmer
    Buraka Som Sistema
    Glass Candy
    Los Campesinos
    People Under The Stairs
    The Bug

the only flaw the Gobi had all weekend was Clipse not showing up... and The Orb not getting a longer set.

(There are more, just don't feel like uploading...all my Orb pics are essentially crap)

Wish I could've caught K'Naan, though. I think I was either watching Lupe or recovering from the mistake of my wrong set time list that forced me out by the mainstage 2 hours longer than necessary.

Buraka was one of the funnest parties all weekend!

People Under The Stairs was the best hip hop of 09, followed closely by Peanut Butter Wolf.

The Orb wins for Most Drugged-Out Crowd.

The Bug was a complete disappointment IMO.

Gobi never lets down. This year, I only got to see Ida Maria and AFP playing Creep, but satisfaction nonetheless.
