When it comes to albums like Resistance and the 2nd Law, the Dude is wise:

    14 in a row = 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012a, 2012b, 2013a, 2013b, 2014a, 2014b

did you really expect the crowd here to like it? It's not in their top 3 by any means, but it's kind of weird how the same people have been posting about how bad they are for like 5 years now. Other forums I read(no, not Muse fan sites) haven't been nearly this critical.

Thing is, I really liked Muse a lot up until The Resistance. Although, I definitely think things started to go downhill once Starlight became a hit.

Agreed. Starlight becoming a hit spawned fluff like Neutron Star Collision and eventually shat out whatever it is that raped my earholes yesterday.

I can get that. I would not have this username if I hadn't registered pre-Resistance.

They're just past their prime creatively, as most bands are after 10+ years. If I can get 3-4 songs I really enjoy every 3 years I can't complain too much.

So I have not heard the new album yet but im curious to know who would still go see them playing this kind of setlist they did on the 20th.

    Supremacy (Live debut)
    Interlude
    Hysteria
    Panic Station (Live debut)
    Resistance
    Supermassive Black Hole
    Animals (Live debut)
    Time Is Running Out
    Save Me (Live debut)
    Madness
    Uprising
    Follow Me
    Plug In Baby
Knights of Cydonia (Man with a Harmonica Intro)

    Encore:
Stockholm Syndrome (With War Within a Breath riff)
    Starlight
    Survival

I haven't listened to the whole album but Supremacy is fucking awesome. Probably one of my favorite Muse songs.

I like the new album, and I liked the Resistance. It's not the same band as before, but it's extremely listenable if you just take it as a band who makes interesting music. It definitely brings them into the Prince "they're music genuises, but you won't like everything you hear" department. I even like Unsustainable - their dubstep song. And I'm not a dubstep guy, so maybe I'm uninformed in the "art" of what makes it good, but it sounds interesting, and I can imagine them recreating it live.

My main problem with the new record is that most of the songs devalue the bass so much, and the bass is what makes so many Muse songs great. The album starts with Supremacy rocking the bass (and doesn't it sound like their new attempt to make a James Bond theme?) and then promptly goes away from it completely. I will say that Survival works way better in the middle of the album than as a single, imho.

They're not prog-rockers for the 2000s anymore, they're pop rock with funk and whatnot. That's okay by me.

The album is growing on me a bit too. I mean it is not a great album and easily the worst in their catalogue...but it has a few redeeming spots.

Supremacy is badass heavy Muse. Madness is a decent pop single. Follow Me and is good anthemic type of song.

IMO the Chris songs really drag the album down at the end...they both suck...especially Save Me. And Survival still stinks.

Overall a mixed album with mixed results...but not as terrible as I initially thought.

Yeah I feel like people are overreacting. There's a few cheesy tracks, yeah. For the most part though I think it's fun.

They're about to play the Roundhouse right now, itunes is streaming it. Just go to the itunes store and there'll be a big 'ol link to it.

Funny, they just did Panic Station into a cover of Sign O' The Times at a radio station set recently.

    So far...

    Supremacy
    Map Of The Problematique
    Panic Station
    Resistance
    Supermassive Black Hole
    Animals
    Time Is Running Out
    Save Me
    Madness
    Uprising
    Follow Me
    Plug In Baby
    Knights Of Cydonia

    New Born
    Starlight
    Survival

Before New Born, Matt said something along the lines of "We didn't think we would play many songs from Origin Of Symmetry anymore, but we like this one a lot." :[

Not a bad setlist for this point in their careers where inevitably we are going to have a setlist with a lot of newer material

But plug in baby and new born. I watched most of the show. It was pretty awesome still. They really are just a phenomenal live band. All of Matt's flourishes really make everything work. Panic Station was a big dance number and follow me was pretty epic. Missed Supremacy which im sure was the best new one.

A setlist typed out is different than hearing the performance. Go watch it. It was much better than that list leads you to believe, I think. They aren't at full dismissal level just yet.

Yep, and the three most obvious, predictable ones at that. The ones we've heard at every single gig since 2004. I guess we shouldn't expect the band that tried too hard to be Queen but ended up being more like The Killers 2.0 to make some creative or surprising setlist choices. And you know American setlists will be even worse, so I bet New Born will be dropped when they come here.
