    Default The National

Alright, I looked for the thread and I couldn't find it though I know there used to be one so anyway, here is a new one.

I started listening to this band about a year ago. I made myself stop about a month ago and that lasted about 3 weeks. I didn't want to kill it you know, I get sick of things or wear them out and I didn't want that to happen with this band because I find them to be kind of special.

anyway, it didn't last and i'm back to listening like crazy. I found a recording of their sasquatch performance and i'll be downloading that when I get home. I fucking loved it. Perfect voice, lyrics and music. I can't get enough. Obsessed is definitley the term i'm admitting to here. I'm quite sure I have listened to Alligator and Boxer more than any other albums this year. Over and over again.

    A few favorites.

I started with Boxer and then moved to Alligator. I don't know which is better but I think I listen to Alligator a whole lot more these days. I like the older stuff as well but it's a bit different. Love Songs for Dirty Lovers is a good album but basically the two latest are like fuckin crack to me. I can't stop.

Last night they played a free show in Cincinnati as an Obama rally. Apparently some person had a bottle of wine to pass around. How fucking cool I thought except the chick who posted that said no one was wanting any except an older lady next to her. It turns out it was Matt's (lead singer) mother. The place probably exploded during Mr. November.

Wish I could have been there for that one.

Good album, although the only song I couldn't live without is Mistaken for Strangers.

The only bands that beat the National in my mind are radiohead and sigur ros. Their performance at Coachella was second only to Portishead.

My regret this year. Only seeing one song by them at Coachella as I didn't want to miss I think MGMT? Black kids? hmm then the Raconteurs maybe? I would have to see a schedule. It was a dumb fucking move but I fucking loved what I saw at Sasquatch and Lollapalooza. I made a poor judgment call at Coachella simply because I thought I wouldn't have opportunities to see conflicting artists. Boy was I wrong. I remember walking up the outdoor theater mid set and just thinking wow wow this is so fucking great but i'm gonna be strong and hold out.

    I'm a fucking idiot.

The National rocked at Coachella. The drummer joined Swell Season right after. They were amazing acts to go back to back.

John (mountmccabe) put together a mix a while back that was mostly pre-Alligator stuff. I'm gonna go look for it so I can link it.

here it is. I tested the link and it still works.

I've seen them at Troubadour two or three times....ah the good times before they got huge and now only play large venues. Saw them at Bonnaroo in 2007 as well.

edit: boxer on vinyl sounds incredible.

I'm on the lookout for that one missingperson. I just downloaded a killer pro shot live show from dime. I watched about half of it last night. Soooo good. You have to see if Dime is open to registrations though I think.
