I understand that I am an adult and I do have the money to pay for the trip, but there might be consequences if I did leave without my parents consent. They do after all pay for my tuition, dorm housing and insurance. They could find a way to stop me from going by threatening to not pay for my essentials. Thanks for your guys help. I might just show them this topic, or some insight about the city and its safety.

Not so much funding the trip but I totally understand not wanting to piss off the people who are paying my tuition etc.

If they're uneasy, a calm explanation of the logistics could go a long way to address their concerns. Staying three blocks form the festival, Chicago's rail system that takes you from the airport to two blocks from the Hostel, etc.
