Is Lollapalooza safe?

I am having a difficult time convincing my parents to let me go to Lollaplooza. Originally, I had a friend who wanted to go with me, but then he dropped out and said he couldn't go. Therefore, I plan to go alone. I am 19 years old and I would be flying from California. Is Lollapalooza overall a safe music festival for me to go alone?

No it is not safe. Everyone who goes to Lollapalooza has to take a self defense and urban warfare seminar. Everything is in the pamphlet that omes with your ticket.

Yeah, you're 19. At 18 I told my parents I was going to Coachella and that I was going to camp out there. Staying in a hotel in Chicago should sound more safe than that.

Also, just raise the money yourself and don't bother asking. Just go.

They haven't been in the past but this year Perry has done braughten more dance music and well, you know how sometimes people with those needles like to dance really fast next to you.


Dance at your own risk. Are we allowed to dance at Lolla? I thought someone had a petition somewhere about that being banned in some places too.

Don't forget Chicago is full of gangs. Cabrini Green and the Chicago Cubs fans are pretty dangerous at times to.

It seemed safe when I was there. Even walking around downtown seemed safe. More so because before and after the festival, downtown is pretty much taken over by festival goers coming in going. So i doubt you'd be wandering the streets or go through a dark alley alone.

Then again, I was with someone.
You should get one of those nifty walking-distance hotels. I wish i had done that.

Lots of kids and teenagers are dying in Chicago, you should just stay in Cali. Maybe a nice peaceful trip to Mexico instead.

This. I went alone last year and stayed in this hostel last year. It's very safe, full of young people going to the festival and is three large city blocks from the festival gates.

You'll be surrounded by 75K other festival goers including security and police. Then when the festival lets out all those people essentially take over the streets for the next 90 minutes.

Go, you'll have an incredible time. Be sure to check out the after shows.

I went to Chicago last year for Lolla and it was a blast!! The city has great food great everything. Just remember u are a visitor so be aware of ur environment. Otherwise if u book a room close to Grant Park u should be good. Make sure u go to Rush St.

I understand that I am an adult and I do have the money to pay for the trip, but there might be consequences if I did leave without my parents consent. They do after all pay for my tuition, dorm housing and insurance. They could find a way to stop me from going by threatening to not pay for my essentials. Thanks for your guys help. I might just show them this topic, or some insight about the city and its safety.
