Pitchfork didn't even mention Pendulum in its review, which is arguably the most adventurous song Pearl Jam has made in the past 10-15 years. I can't think of any song from the post-Binaural era that it can be compared to. They also didn't mention Getaway which is another song that shines a light on Jeff's groove. But, I can understand the argument that their albums have become too comfortable. Brendan O'Brien has obviously done some great work with the band, but it's probably time for the guys to consider someone new for the next album that will try to shake things up a bit.

They are the gen x Stones or U2 at this point. ITT you have their fans openly admitting that the albums don't even matter anymore.

Word is that Ed was sick tonight and some audibles were called because of it. Still a pretty solid setlist. Only the second time ever that they've played Otherside.

Have they played W.M.A. all the way through much or at all over the past 5 years? Catching it at Bonnaroo sort of made the set for me, and I think it had been something like 12 or 13 years since they played it in its entirety up to that point.

That 2008 tour was pretty much the last time they've played it in full like that. Glad I got to see it at MSG.

Definitely the weakest setlist of the tour so far, gtfo with that Cropduster into Wishlist shit. Hopefully they do this for Night 2 in LA, as I've decided to see Deltron 3030 that night.

Although I've been wanting to see Other Side for so long, that'd be amazing.

Nice setlist for the first of two nights in Brooklyn; Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns, Oceans to start the first encore and Sleight of Hand. Really liking the double openers thing they've got going on this tour.

They seem to be playing 'Indifference' more often on this tour than in past ones.

Not complaining, it's a great closer.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Holy Hell...is the Barclays Center still standing? Wash, Last Exit and In Hiding in the first eight songs? Those are three of my top five songs I'm still chasing (In My Tree and Breath are the others). If they're playing shows like this just a week after the tour started, can you imagine what some of the West Coast shows might be like?

Quite the first encore Philly got tonight. Nice to see a lot of Yield on the setlist tonight. Judging by these setlists and reports from the shows so far, the band is just on another level this tour.

So if anyone wasn't aware, this week is Pearl Jam week on Jimmy Fallon's show. I think what I heard is that a different artist is going to cover a Pearl Jam song every night, leading up to the band performing on Friday? Or something like that? Anyway, tonight Chris Cornell covered Footsteps with the Avett Brothers...and god it was fantastic. Chills.

So I am late, but I finally got a chance to listen to the new album. Here is my unsolicited opinion. Better than Backspacer (which isn't saying much), but my god. Talk about limping to the finish line. Yellow Moon is the exception, but that Swallowed Whole to Future Days run was painful. Future Days may be one of their worst songs ever.

Not a huge fan of the Lightning Bolt song, but the first seven songs were enjoyable. The album is not going to get played too much, but as said before, I am here for the live shows nowadays. And speaking of the live shows, these setlists have looked pretty spectacular. Even more bummed I am only catching one show.

Meh, I didn't care for it. His voice really didn't fit with the intensity of the song. Cool to see Dan Rossen from Grizzly Bear in the band though.

I love Pearl Jam live - they are just awesome. That being said, absolutely hate the way they always end their sets witha slow song. I hate it when any band does that. Such a downer. I always want to leave the show pumped up, wanting to see them play the next night.

I have been to many shows where they ended with a non-slow song.

OK "always" was maybe not the right word. Often is more like it. The last two times they played in STL they ended with Yellow Ledbetter. The setlists just in this thread show YL and Indifference. A casual review of the live albums they record show YL being one of the most common closers. They do throw in an occasional Rockin in the Free World, which is a pretty perfect closer, though.

Uh...that's because Yellow Ledbetter is and always will be their traditional closer.

And I wish they ended their sets with a more rocking song. This is a general principle and not related to the fact that YL is one of my least favorite PJ songs.

AND they do not always end with it, so...

Yeah, they usually end with Ledbetter, but I am always relieved when they don't. Looking back at my show closers, I have gotten pretty rocking closers about half the time:

    - Yellow Ledbetter - 7
    - Rockin in the Free World - 4
    - Baba O'Riley - 2
    - Indifference - 2
    - Alive - 1
    - Leaving Here - 1

Did I say they always close with it? I said it is their traditional closer. They've played it 316 times and I think all but once or twice it wasn't played as a closer. Once for sure at the Showbox in Seattle on 12/6/2002 where it ended the first encore. There might be another time that I'm not remembering at the moment. You may very well get a show that closes with RITFW, Baba or Alive, but most of the time you're either going to get Indifference or YL. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way. As much as I love those songs, to me it just feels weird if a PJ show ends with a cover like RITFW or Baba. It feels like something is missing. You've just been on a three-hour journey with the band and Indifference and YL are the perfect way to end that journey. It's like when U2 used to end every concert with "40." Some songs are just meant to be played as closers.
