Hahahahaaaaa. The new sig quite amusing, Chris. More to the point, I pretty much ignore what Mr. sbessiso has to say about music or other other people's taste. For obvious reasons...

Leaving for PJ in 2 hours after a little Monday night football and plenty of vodka. Yessssss!

Tickets are going for as little as $55 on criagslist. I suspect I'll end up snagging one for tomorrow night as well.

I was skipping LA Night 4 originally but then came to my senses. They always bust out the best setlist on the last night of a residency.

Yikes. I hope tonight's set is just a reflection of the new album released. 8 of 11 songs from Backspacer tonight. Not blown away by this setlist, but they still have to finish their 2nd encore.

Sooooooooooo, PJ are pretty much badass in the flesh. Eddie has fantastic stage presence and McCready's solos are equally impressive. I couldn't tell you the exact set list but it was Backspacer heavy, naturally. Even Flow is a fucking monster of a song live! Especially with an extended McCready solo. The crowd-led Acappella sing along for the first bit of Betterman was incredible and Alive was a excellent song to cap the night. The new songs sound good live. Particularly Going to See My Friend, The Fixer, Got Some and Johnny Guitar. At the beginning of the first encore they brought out two violins, a viola and cello to play The End and another song I didn't recognize. Then, a four horn section came out for a cover of The Who in the final encore. Truth be told I would have preferred more older material to some of the new stuff but if that isn't the biggest cliche in live music. They really are one of those bands whose catalog vastly exceeds a single show. Halfway through I began to fear the end of the show. They could have gone for another hour playing hits. Reminds me of another sorta popular band--Radiohead--in that regard. So much fun.

And I got there early to pick up a show poster

One of the funnier moments of the night was a little Eddie between song banter. It went something like this:
"I don't mean to talk politics with the new record being upbeat. But our president Obama has a lot on his plate right now. With the energy bill, a recovering economy and the healthcare situation which could take an eternity to fix when we just need to do what's right *cheers* But the president said something recently that we really agree with.... we also think that Kanye West is a jackass."

    I'm totally going tomorrow night!

Definitely go tomorrow. Tonight was pretty heavy on Backspacer and hits. Tomorrow should offer a lot more diversity. The setlist looks a little weird, actually.

Did you pick up the Shawn Kemp poster? That thing was awesome!

The sasquatch poster looks to be an Ames print. Jeff's brother is actually one of the guys that heads that up.

    The setlist by the way...

Set List: Long Road, Corduroy, Gonna See My Friend, Got Some, Hail Hail, Amongst The Waves, Daughter, Even Flow, Johnny Guitar, Unthought Known, World Wide Suicide, Small Town, Off He Goes, Down, Save You, The Fixer, Life Wasted

1st encore: Just Breathe w/the Octava String Quartet, The End w/ the Octava String Quartet, Inside Job, Rearviewmirror

2nd encore: Given To Fly, Do The Evolution, Better Man, The Real Me (Townshend) w/ the Syncopated Taint Horn Quartet, Indifference, Alive

The poster is by Ames Bros Posters. It was $30 and they were charging $2 for a tube. This had me apprehensive for a moment but being my first PJ show it had to happen. At the table I discovered all the poster proceeds were going to local charities so it was all the better at that point.

To his credit, Eddie has always been very involved and giving to the community up here. When I first moved up here for the John Kerry campaign in '04, Eddie came to a $25,000/plate fundraiser wearing jeans and a plaid shirt with rolled up sleeves. Hahaha. I didn't get to meet him though :-/ no love for the interns...

Agreed on the set list. A bit meh--even if well delivered--so I'm banking on their reputation for switching things up from night to night. Eddie did mention that they were playing a lot off Backspacer live for the first time.

Wasn't at the voter's rally deal. Sounds cool though. There were a few pretty good, cheap, political shows around the election. Tom Morello did a few as well if I recall correctly. I was at showbox for Obama's victory speech though. They had the building filled to the gills, craziness.

I love seeing huge bands like this with the 'OMG what are they going to play tonight?' feeling. Off to craigslist to secure a lower bowl seat again!

Wow, I didn't know that's why you moved to Seattle. That's fucking awesome.

And yeah, setlist might be a bit meh on the surface...but you guys got fucking INDIFFERENCE, which I've only seen 1x out of my 14x seeing the band live.....that song kills me every time I hear it, whether live or on record...be thankful for that.
