Didn't think the SD show would go so fast. I know it's been a while but still. Think I'm gonna end up doing those "obstructed view" seats...

SD loves the shit out of Pearl Jam. That is Eddie's and Matt's home turf and they always tend to bring pretty spectacular shows to the city (although 2009 was a little bit of a letdown). The crowd tends to be better than most SoCal shows. It also is a destination show for a lot of the PJ diehards. Viejas or whatever it is called now is also a smaller venue than most of their shows, so it is always tough to get SD tickets.

As an FYI, if you are going to the show, try to get their early. You can hear the band clearly soundcheck from right outside the front doors.

The 2009 show was indeed a letdown, but they opened with Oceans there in 2006. That forgave any future sin from that point on in my book.

This song isn't doing much for me. Like much of their work the last few albums, I hear bits and pieces of things in the songs that I like but I don't end up digging the song as a whole. Oh well, still going to see them live whenever I get the chance.

Here's the setlist from opening night last night. My copy of Lightning Bolt arrived yesterday from the 10 Club. I had been listening to the stream all week, but glad to actually have it in hand. Pendulum is such a great song. I didn't think they still had a song like that in them. Also, Oct. 21-25 will be Pearl Jam Week on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. PJ will perform twice with performance during the week from Chris Cornell w/Avett Brothers, Dierks Bentley and Robin Pecknold.

Yea I can't wait till VooDoo. On the schedules, it looks like they have a curfew or whatever on the fest because it is in the middle of NOLA and everything seems to end at 1100pm. We just get started then . WTF, a two hour only set to PJ? If that's the case, even thought the day b4 will have been Halloween (Bourbon St on Halloween I think we will go to a STS9 show late on Friday at some club (tnx for the update M Dylan) ... Interesting that they are starting off all of their shows with 2-3 slow songs, including multiple traditional openers. I am so bummed I will only be seeing them once. I am hoping that Portland show is pretty fucking insane.

Just listened to the new album front to back for the second time, and I'm really unimpressed at this point. About half of Backspacer really opened up to me after a few listens, but this just seems like their most generic and bland effort to date. Riot Act was awful, but at least it took some chances. This is a completely sterile and safe record.

I think if you go into any new Pearl Jam album expecting anything groundbreaking, you are going to be disappointed. They haven't made an interesting album in more than a decade. I get excited when they have a new album just for the touring. Regardless of how poor or dull an album turns out, their live shows are always exquisite.
