Thread: Roskilde 2009 Anyone?

  1. #31

    Default Re: Roskilde 2009 Anyone?

No one seems to care but here are a bunch of new bands for this years festival.

Exotic beats from the north and the south
Bomba Estéreo, Gangbé Brass Band, N.A.S.A., Negash Ali and Radioclit provide lots of big city atmosphere from very different places on the planet.
Just about the entire globe is represented in Roskilde Festival's music programme. Few other festivals offer as gaudy a mix of foreign dialects and traditions - this Wednesday in a saturated hotchpotch of electronic and organic dance beats.

Today's announcement is in itself a little circumnavigation of the globe with Africa, South America, the US and Denmark as destinations on the journey.

BOMBA ESTÉREO (COL) combine their own music traditions such as cumbia and champeta with Jamaican dub, Angolan kuduro and American hip hop. Look forward to a hot, South American dance party, which is the embodiment of Colombia and the nightclub sounds of the western music scene.

GANGBÉ BRASS BAND (BEN) is a steel brass band that crosses New Orleans jazz and bebop with local music traditions such as juju and Afro beat. A renewing union of the city jazz club and West Africa's dusty desert world.

N.A.S.A. (US) have set out to break down the borders between countries as well as music genres. Their music is a spluttering horn of plenty of all styles that rhyme with dance or hip hop – and the melted down genre fun is accompanied by an imaginative, trippy dance show.

NEGASH ALI (DK) has proven with his solo album Asmarino that he is capable of delivering moving English-language hip hop. The African-born Dane brings a small soul orchestra to back him up.

RADIOCLIT presents THE VERY BEST (INT) is the result of a meeting between a European DJ/producer duo and the Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya. Here the trio combines the sound of heavy, clubby electronica with tropical rhythms. The result is a fascinating and dance-friendly hotchpotch that will make advocates of clear genre boundaries run away screaming.

Gayfish and a MTV rapper over Slipknot, i don´t thinks so.

Btw, Slipknot is not above Kanye West, they are both headliners.

I think it's silly to worry about where the artists are placed on the lineup.

being from the states, I don't really care for slipknot, gayfish or lil wayne.

Trentemoller, NIN, Fever Ray,Faith No More, Nick Cave....

    hello?

More new names are ready for this year.

    Sharp, alternative acts to Roskilde
This run-up offers extra treats for the indie crowd in the shape of I’m From Barcelona, Wavves and The Whitest Boy Alive.
We have something great for fans of indie pop, noise punk and dance-friendly pop rock. Three solid acts make the final festival poster at the last minute.

I’M FROM BARCELONA (S) plays indie pop with a large number of winds, synthesizers, accordion and choir singers. In spite of a crew that could fill half a football team, the sound is often light and carefree in that special way that characterises Swedish pop music - * from ABBA to Jens Lekman.

WAVVES (US) has in a short time become one of the hottest acts on the buzzing blogs where the young Californian has been hailed as a new great talent. Nathan Williams plays simple, catchy songs about skateboards and boredom, which he buries in a thick blanket of white guitar noise.

THE WHITEST BOY ALIVE (N/DE) delivers a quite unique combination of white funk, German electronics and catchy pop, which enthuses at concerts as well as on record. Norwegian Erlend Řye and his German playmates played with us the last time in 2007. Since then they have been high on many people’s lists of dream concerts at this year’s Roskilde Festival.

    The last few empty slots...
We are not quite done yet. Few slots on the programme are still empty, and a handful of Lounge and Pavilion Junior acts also look forward to being announced in the near future.

This is the last names for this years Roskilde, a full schedule is expected this wednesday.

We are delighted to finally have a full house. With today's three new acts we have a complete programme. Look forward to later this week when we present a detailed schedule with playing times and stage allocations.

PETER DOHERTY (UK) is one of Britain’s finest songwriters and has fronted rock bands such as The Libertines and Babyshambles. The many stormy years in the media hurricane have not spoiled the Brit’s talent for catchy guitar rock. He demonstrates this fully on the solo album Grace/Wastelands.

ELBOW (UK) plays epic and progressive stadium rock. The five Brits' symphonic and ambitious music has the same weight and bravura normally associated with Radiohead or Muse. Elbow won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2008 for their latest album The Seldom Seen Kid.

I GOT YOU ON TAPE (DK) navigates perfectly between pop accessibility and introversion without losing the compass. The well-playing band with fronted by Jacob Bellens’ powerful, dark vocals is an obvious acquaintance for fans of thoughtful pop music.

You must understand that you can not stay in the front pit after a concert so there will be enough time for the Slipknot fans to go away from the stage and to the Pet Shop Boys fans to enter the pit system.
