I'm a stencil artist...when I feel like it. I think I have adult ADD or something...I generally do something until I prove to myself that I can do it, and then I lose interest...
this last one is Dubya's face with the McDonald makeup on it...just in case ya couldn't tell...
If ya like my stuff, check out www.stencilrevolution.com and check out some of the other artists...
Oh yeah...and these were all done with hand-cut stencils...usually cut out of manilla folders or overhead transparencies...then sprayed with cans of spraypaint. In case ya didn't know.

That is indeed Mr. Burden. He also created "The Other Vietnam Memorial" which had the names of the Vietnamese that died during the war. He did a piece where every person that walked through the turnstile added one click of pressure to a pneumatic lift that was braced against the supporting walls of the gallery/museum...so every person that came to see his work was systematically destroying the building through that action. He did hire a person to shoot him in the arm and called it art. He also had himself crucified on the hood of a VW Beatle (actual nails through his hands). I actually found a small piece of his art while working at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego...one of his nickles with the matchstick glued to it from his piece, "The Reason for the Atomic Bomb" (several thousand nickels with matchsticks glued on, arranged on the floor of the gallery represented every tank in the Soviet army). That guy is the $hiznit...lol.

Yeah...I actually was teaching a summer school art class at SDSU and did it as a demonstration on how to draw from a still-life & turn that into a stencil. I set up a still life with a model of a skull & an old respirator mask, drew it directly on a manilla folder, inked the areas to be cut out, and cut it with an X-Acto blade in about 3 hours of working time. Some of the kids learned how to stencil from it and ended up doing some really nice work. I was stoked though because it's one of my favorite stencils I've done.
Far as Bob Flanagan goes, I'm not familiar with his work. I'll google him and check it out.

Haha...nah...I left it in the bookstore at the La Jolla location in the safe. A little bag of the nickels. If you ever get to know anyone that works there now, ask them if the baggie is still in the safe. In fact, you could probably ask for change for a dollar and request the nickels be the ones in the safe with the matches glued to them. See if they'd go for it! LoL...

I saw that exhibit. It was really neat, but I can't stand those guards in black when there is no one else in the room. Then they have no one to look at but me.
