Bio

A Life of Science is anything but a standard band concept. Based on sonic experience and gripping storytelling, their forthcoming debut album, The Apneist, produced by Larry Elyea (Jimmy Eat World, Eyes Set to Kill), will take the listener on an unforgettable journey through the subconscious in a future setting, as told by the man responsible for the apocalypse as he sinks to his death.

A Life of Science is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. James Keenan (Vocals/Bass/Synth) and Zakk Geist (Guitar/Vocals/Programming) have been best friends since the age of 10 and musical collaborators since the age of 14. They enlisted the help of fellow Phoenicians, Scott Passamonte (Guitar/Vocals) and Angel Garcia (Percussion/Vocals) to bring the vision to life.

The band's expansive palette draws from explosive percussion, diverse dueling guitars, dynamic synth, thunderous bass, vocals that range from angelic to aggressive and dazzling programming, all rooted in Indie Rock, Post Punk, Hard Core and Programmer Pop.

The Apneist album will be available on April 28th. The Apneist comic book, DVD, novel, and more will follow in 2009. A Life of Science will bring The Apneist experience on the road in the summer of 2009.

Im not trying to be a hater, but please explain why we should care about this album. Are they a supergroup of some kind? Or a new band who deserves attention? What kind of music are they? Do they sound like any other bands? Who, from what you gather, are their musical influences? This information would be helpful.

So I actually gave them a chance and listened to them on iTunes. Weak shit. Super cheesy sounds, voice affects, terrible writing. Seriously guys, don't bother unless you want a good laugh.

And seriously, what's with these brand spankin' new bands trying cross promotion tools like comics, videos, ringtone services etc with no following developed yet? Why not spend the time, money and effort on their music and getting word out instead of dumb shit like this? It's so gimmicky and stupid.

Tickle. The album came out at 11pm CALI time. The songs you listened to are very very old. My guess is maybe 2 years. Go back to iTunes and buy a few off the Apneist, all of them are different and sound NOTHING like the ones you listened to.

I've never heard anything like this before, and each song has a story tied to it which I really liked.

The lead singer I think was at a party earlier this year rolling and gave me the 90 minute infomercial in person. I understood his excitement as he kept saying this was his lifes work and it was finally being released. He talked about the concept a bit which I didn't follow too much. He kept begging for honest opinions and seemed to take the cheesy crtiticism well. Kudos for him getting something put out that he wanted but it just wasn't my taste at all.

I think I told him the kids of today might dig it. The website is horribly designed as well with links that say things like "stuff" as a menu option. Terrible.

The song titles are decent but it sounds like rejected synth pop or an evolution of classic rock with very cheesy metal riffs. For instance on my space I was listening to the song "Carving a Canyon" it sounds like really low rent Linkin Park. The synth sounds are actually decent at times laying a nice bed but as soon as the vocals and guitar start i'm screaming for someone to take me away from whatever this genre is. It doesn't fit. The drums sound like a cheesy drum machine as well.

Overall I don't dig anything except some of the song titles and intro's. Once the music starts in each song I hear lots of SCREAMO. Not good.

That might be why he succeeds some day. Not now with this. If it was me I would take it all very personally and get pissed off but try to hide it while arguing that people just don't understand it.

I hope their next effort is better. He said they spent a few years on this as I recall. Maybe strip down, focus on songwriting and bring in the art in a different way. It's hard to understand all the focus on the comics an stuff and how it relates to the music. Maybe make it a bit more cohesive.

Carving a Canyon is fairly unpleasant .
