Still not getting the answer to what I'm asking...

When Depeche Mode headlined last year, I wasn't interested in seeing them, but people said they were obvious headliners because they could headline their own show at places like the Rose Bowl. Doesn't matter if I liked them or not, or they were intense: they sell tickets. Like Radiohead (who I like) and RHCP (who I don't).

The only big shows that people are mentioning for Rage are festivals and political events where they are not the main reason tickets are being sold and people are assembling.

How big were the venues that RATM played when they were headlining their own shows? It's not a criticism. Very few of my favourite bands would be big enough to headline but it doesn't mean they're not great.

Rage is going to be a reunion, which should give them headline status even if they werent one of the greatest bands ever

Typically reunion acts have been given 2nd billing.. Pixies, Bauhaus, New Order, et al.

thanks for the RATM venue info microcut. The only point I'm trying to make is maybe the headliners are : RHCP, Bjork and someone besides RATM.

But they were playing arenas so maybe they can pull off being a headliner. Personally, I think Pixies could've headlined Sunday ahead of both the Cure and Flaming Lips.

Pixies were playing 3,000 seat theatres on their recent reunion tour, and they were OPENING for the Cure at the height of their heyday in the late 80s. There's no way they would have been billed over The Cure, one of GV's biggest headliners ever, next to Radiohead.

The last one was The Forum not Staples...... Queens of The Stone Age and Gangstarr opened it ruled.... But At The Drive In opened for them in New York, soo jealous..

The Flaming Lips didn't headline either... but I like your optimism, offyrhd, although you could have been a little less obtuse about what you were getting at.

Maybe not but there was a huge, huge buzz about the Pixies. A lot of people on this board were flying in mainly to see them. But true, the Pixies were not playing venues as big as what RATM seem to have been.

Also, those Rage shows were over 7 years ago. There's simply no way to determine what kind of weight they would have today. Although, Coachella being in Southern California, where they were arguably more popular than anywhere else, I'd say they will be a very big draw.

I think it can sell out, and Muse has almost sold out their L.A. area arena show btw....

That's true, Rage's popularity is much greater in the LA area.

Big in LA is the new big in Japan.

The only I even heard about this so-called Coachella Festival was because I found out that's one of the places the Pixies were playing. Of course, this was before we new they would tour for two straight years.

Once I found out Radioead, the FLaming Lips, and Air were on the bill, there was no question as to whether I was going. But the Pixies were, without question, 80% of the reason I went the first time.

Well... i'm from Argentina and I hope i could get the money to travel to Coachella to see RATM playing together again... I will try to raise it but the plane ticket it's too expensive.

On 1997 there was a festival here (a tribute to "Madres de Plaza de Mayo") where RATM was announced as the most important act. Finally they suspended their visit for some reasons that i dont remeber. Since then we are waiting for them, but they never came to south america. Now some newspapers says that maybe Audioslave will play here on april (10/04) but i dont think that will happen...

So, I will travel to California or I will see it by internet :P, but it doesnt matter, RATM is live again!!!

That's exactly the way it was for me too. Pixies reuniting! Playing at Coachella! What's Coachella? Saw the rest of the lineup and booked the flight.

Saw them again at Sasquatch (another great fest) in 2005.
