I'm flying into LAX and planning on driving to Indio from there. How long is the drive? Mapquest told me it was about 2 hours but when I posted that, someone laughed.

well its about 146 miles to the venue. how fast do you drive? Will there be traffic during the time you drive?
65 mph x 2 hours would be 130 miles.

Depending on the time/day you may encounter some traffic in the LA area.
Im flying into LAX & driving to Indio too. Flying in from NY.

In 04, during our drive from Ontario, we encountered wildfires crossing the highway. Needless to say it added an hour or two to our travels.
if at all possible try not to drive out there between the hours of 3-6 p.m. there aren't too many freeways going out to the desert and they get jammed
im flying into Vegas and driving down from there, anyone know how long it will take??

what day/time is your flight supposed to arrive? this will all impact:
a) how quickly you can actually get OUT of the LAX area ... it's not the friendliest of airports.
b) how long it should take you to get to indio
and of course... yeah, accidents/mishaps will have an additional detrimental impact. anyway, like if you're arriving thursday mid-day (between 11-1), you may be able to get away with getting to indio in 2-3 hours. if it's thursday anytime between 2-8 pm, you should guesstimate 3-4.5 hours. anytime friday is basically a crapshoot.

Thanks for the input everyone!
Our flight arrives at LAX around 9 am on Wednesday, April 25. After we pick up the rental car and our luggage, we should be on the road by 10 or 11 am. I won't be the one driving (thankfully) but I'm assuming my bf will drive the speed limit.
So 2 hours seems a little too quick then. We'll aim for 3, assuming the roads are clear and traffic isn't insane.
WE leave La about * am every year and get to Palm Springs in about two hours. I know because we go to that outlet mall and usually arrive before it is open. I think as you go later in he day it takes longer and longer--one evening it took my husband about 4hours.Leaving LA anytime before noon is good!
yeah, i'm kinda in the same boat. i'm flying into LAX and getting on the ground sometime around 9-ish on tuesday nite. i'm figuring that traffic towards the indio area won't be that bad that late. i'm planning on the trip taking somewhere around 2-3 hours, which isn't that bad to me, in all honesty.
