    Default Top 5, Bottom 5

I'm always interested to hear what other people's favorites/least favorites were.

    Mine:

    Top 5:

    1. The Presets
    2. The Bloody Beetroots
    3. Etienne de Crecy
    4. My Bloody Valentine
    5. Groove Armada

    Bottom 5:

    1. The Orb (What...The...Fuck...Was...That?)
    2. The Chemical Brothers
    3. TV on the Radio
    4. M.A.N.D.Y. (soooooo disappointed)
    5. Paul McCartney (the 3 songs or so it took for me to walk from the Sahara, past the main stage, until I was out of earshot of that nonsense)

I'm not huge on ranking things because it's just about impossible to compare Leonard Cohen to Girl Talk... but what the hell...

    Top 5
    1) Plump DJ's
    2) Leonard Cohen
    3) Michael Franti
    4) Girl Talk
    5) Tinariwen

    Bottom 5
    1) Gaslight Anthem
    2) The Cure (never was a fan - they bore me)
    3) Dear & the Headlights (bleh)
    4) Noah & the Whale (expected great things, maybe I should have stayed longer and given them more time)
    5) Lupe Fiasco (just doesn't have the stage presence and charisma of some of the other great rappers who have been on that stage)
Coachella is a place beyond conventional geography, a time not measured in hours or minutes, an experience, a state of mind, an attitude, and a holy form of expression. The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is an annual festival put on by Goldenvoice in Indio, CA. Please don't confuse the two.

    Top 5:
    Leonard Cohen
    Amanda Fucking Palmer
    Plump DJs
    Franz Ferdinand
    Fleet Foxes/Junior Boys

    Bottom 5:
    Steve Aoki
    The Chemical Brothers
    Morrissey (only saw 2 songs)

Honestly, I only have 3... The others that didn't necessarily electrify me (Lykke Li, Brian Jonestown Massace, Blitzen Trapper) weren't necessarily bad.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

I don't get Leonard Cohen, but it seemed like a lot of people really enjoyed his set.

I watched 3 or 4 songs then went on my way.

    4) Drop the Lime - Awful mixes.
    5) Teen ravers with no concept of dance flooor etiquette dominating the Sahara tent.

    Top:

Atmosphere - as an underground hiphop fan for years, I'm ashamed I'd never heard of them before
Bajofondo - so tight, so sexy
Thievery Corp - never seen them before, and the musicianship was tremendous
Plump DJs - best dance act of the weekend to me
NASA - ahhhhh.....early 90s hiphop mash was terrific!

    Bottom:

Felix da Housecat - He was just plain awful
Noah and the Whale - they looked like they wanted to be anywhere else
PE - loved the idea of FoaBP but no samples whatsoever
TVotR - not their performance, but the sound just sucked. Total bummer

    TOP

    1. M.I.A. (you all have no idea what you're talking about)
    2. The Presets (best act of Friday hands down)
    3. Antony + The Johnsons (Antony is incredible, and that heat was ridiculous)
    4. Throbbing Gristle (FABULOUS- Genesis is a god)
    5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs (AMAZINGGGGGGGGG and so pristine)
    6. AOKI!!!! (his energy-- so RAD!-- his dancers could have changed faster though-- LOL! VIVA BENIHANA!)

Honorable Mention 1: Crookers (BROUGHT IT HARD)
Honorable Mention 2: Girl Talk (crowd surfing on a raft is RAD)
Honorable Mention 3: Gang Gang Dance
Honorable Mention 4: Ianator from Dolab

    BOTTOM

5th from bottom: Public Enemy (do you really have to warn everyone like 5x that you're going to dive into the crowd?)
4th from bottom: Paul McCartney (at least he played some Beatles music, and I got to hear Let It Be as I walked to the car)
3rd from bottom: Etienne de Crecy (bad music, stupid gimmick)
2nd from bottom: Lucent Dossier (don't come up and mess with me as I'm walking through: I'm not playing your game!)
Bottom: The Orb (WTF was that!)

Honorable Mention (cause I didn't see them): The Killers
Honorable Mention: Crystal Castles (just wasn't their night)
Honorable Mention: Morrissey (why did he take his shirt off if he was going to put another one on in <5 seconds? -- and why is he even taking his shirt off at all... that part of his life is over... he's fat and gross now and needs to accept it... in fact, he can't even sing anymore so it's really just over until he reunites with that crappy jamband he was in one day)

I also agree that it's a bit silly to rank such a diverse group of artists, but, I also like lists so...

    Top 5:

    1. Paul McCartney
    2. Buraka Som Sistema
    3. Chemical Bros. and MSTRKRFT (back-to-back)
    4. My Bloody Valentine
    5. Surkin

    Bottom 2:
    1. Felix da Housecat. He picked some good songs, but my god, I think anyone who went into that 'learn how to dj' tent could have pulled that off. It must have taken him a good 10 minutes to prepare for his Coachella set. Maybe it's time to put the cat down?
    2. Steve Aoki. Seriously, Steven? The screaming? You really think you're badass? It was fine when your set had the silly party feel, but when you started your Rage act it was just ridiculous.
Last edited by JewFace; 04-21-2009 at 10:22 AM. Reason: I actually DO have a couple of 'bottom' artists after all.

ok so at&t blue room is not like being at the fest (in some ways, its better, what great camera work) but the cure on the tube was pretty damn good .... i think its funny too that b4 the fest it was "who wants to see some old fart (macca) up there singing 40 year old songs!!!" and now i see him on many of the top 5 bands of the weekend ..... go paul .... cr****

    Top 5

-Los Campesinos! (one of my favorites of the weekend)
-The Presets (ok, maybe the Presets were actually my favorite...awesome every time!!)
-Bloody Beetroots(had me dancing more than most other Sahara acts this year....lose Steve Aoki next time though)
-Yeah Yeah Yeahs(not as great as other times I've seen them, but something about Karen O is just compelling, even with the lame grin stuck on her face the entire set...I liked the new songs live much more than I expected to)
-Late of the Pier(such energy, great sound, they could've closed out the Sahara any night)

    Bottom 5

-M.I.A. (Don't think I ever need to watch her again, obnoxious sound effects kill it for me again.....my brother and I were laughing hysterically every time the fucking stupid air horn sounded...again and again.......love her music, but I think her personality just completely turns me off, something about her seemingly contrived faux hip hop attitude doesn't jive with her woman of the people shtick....)
-Chemical Brothers (I'm a big fan, but the DJ set was simply boring)
-Etienne de Crecy (so much hype over nothing, the set bored me, the cube was highly unimpressive)
    -
    '99-'11...
