    Default Camp theft?!

How common is theft in the Coachella camp ground? Obviously I'm not going to leave an ipod, wallet, cell phone, etc. in my tent but will stuff like food, chairs & sleeping bags be safe enough during the festival hours?

    Thanks for the insider knowledge.

I left my wallet and ipod in my tent which I felt stupid about later but nothing was stolen. I left a fold up chair outside with a cooler and everything was intact when I got back. I had a Chicago White Sox Car Magnet stolen off my vehicle but that's a bout it. I think it's a fairly safe community but the parking lot is less monitored than the campground.

Hide your valuables in a Fall Out Boy CD case. Nobody will touch them.

Why would you worry about your wallet if your cash was in your pocket(s)?

Shit, why even OWN a wallet if you keep your money in your pocket(s)?

So, do you think getting a tent lock would be a good idea or is it unnecessary?

(Do they even make tent locks? I obviously don't camp often)

I think a tent lock would tip off any would-be bandits that you have something valuable in your tent. I wouldn't bother.

whoever steals other people's things from tents, whether they're are locked up or wide open, is a worthless piece of shit

What about people like me that have to use credit/debit cards? We gotta do something with our wallets and money. And being stuck in such a huge crowd, and bound to get a little crazy, i don't want to have to stop every 10 seconds in the middle of Bjork of Rage's set to see if i still have my wallet on me.

There should be plenty of Fall Out Boy CDs still in record stores everywhere. (At least, I sure as hell hope that nobody is actually buying them...)

just make sure you put the chairs and stuff in the tent, and make friends with your neighbors

That funny part about your comment is that hiding your valuables in a Fall Out Boy CD case would actually work.

or just cause someone to pick it up to trash it.

buy one of those small locks that you would use for luggage and you can lock up the zippers on your tent. i have done it plenty of times. don't worry about "tipping someone off" that you have something valuable in your tent.
think about it... anyone that would rip something off is some idiot that will be discouraged if there is a lock. why waste time on the locked tent when there are so many other unlocked tents?

FALL OUT BOY SUCKS SOOO HARD.
I know at Sasquatch you can have a few douch bags who rip off your beer or lawn chair at the campground. But I know I have been wondering this same thing. Also, is drinking openly ALLOWED in the campground? Does it matter?

In my experience camping, theft has been pretty minimal, I have not heard of a major major incident in 5 years. I never thought twice about it the first year camping was even used in 2003. I think %98 of everyone who is there knows to respect the other people around them and not take their things. But yeah a lock wouldnt be such a bad idea. And common sense is the easiest thing. Dont leave your laptop and other pricey things in your tent, lock them in your car and then go to the festival.
