More baffling is Nicki Minaj being in the top 5, let alone top anything besides most fucking annoying voice in the history of hip-hop

Ok well I mean it should be on that list, but definitely not #1. But then again, I can't think of what should be and it's Pitchfork so whatever

I was curious to see which song they'd pick as the top song since this year didn't have an agreed upon hit like the last two years. Midnight City is a good song, but it's not the best song of the year (IMO, Northern Lights is). Still, I understand why it was picked.

Re m83: Pitchfork can't give Bon Iver best song & album of the year. You can only gag on one dude's cabin-fevered nutsack so much.

Totally agree... some serious omissions. At least they put them on the honorable mention list.

Some of the albums I thought would for sure make the top 20 hit much lower. Can't wait to check out the rest.

They have yet to put on KoL...and Lil B's I'm Gay got a better score so I am still hoping Lil B will make the list :-)

I think if they put Lil B on the list that they will pull a James Blake 2010 and just include all his mixtapes in one.

Bahahahahahaha! That Guest List Best of '11 has various musicians going into such detail about what they loved this year, and then all the way at the bottom of the first page J Mascis just says "I think I only like my record this year."

Ive yet to read the review( the number ratings on p4k are fucking awful and off point almost all time time IMO), but Im enjoying the record. I also have been a big Shins fan for some time and was really just pinning (sp?) for any new music from them/mercer.

I mean, its the shins? theyve never been spewing astoundingly musical brilliance. Its set of nice songs with likable lyrics, like all their albums have been. I dont really like ranking a band's albums in order, and I def have not thought of this new albums place yet, but its not far off from the rest of their stuff. do you like other shins albums? i had a friend who ONLY like Wincing the Night Away and he thought everyone was fucking wacko for liking the first two. So maybe you just dont like this more upbeat kinda rockin shins the same he only liked the spacey synth shins.

You said you had low expectations... maybe you shouldnt have had any expectations if you've just outgrown/never fit into the kind of simple indie songs they write.

K, this sounds like im telling you what you think so sorry if I went in that direction. not trying to get feisty about it as it gets late, but im still posting.

I really like all of their previous albums, this one's just completely soulless and bland to me. Oh well.

It does have a very over-produced feel to it I can say. Like he's been hanging out with Danger Mouse too much... Did you like the Broken Bells album and ep? Its more akin to that then the previous Shins releases when I think about it.

The Broken Bells album had a few solid tracks, wasn't a huge fan of it overall though.
