Today all the artists reviewed have one-word names: MGMT, Islands, Daedelus, Clark, and LAKE.

6.2 is a bit high for that MGMT album.

6.2 is high for any MGMT album. I can't believe a handful of people are still taking them seriously.

MIA is fucking retarded for flipping off the cameras. She wants her fan's help. With what? She chose to do that. so deal with it. And give me an apology. Stupid bitch.
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.

I don't understand the hype they're getting. It's bad EDM with Sleigh Bells vocals.

It's cheesey electro-pop, but I enjoyed their set at Lolla.

It's funny what we choose to give a pass to. I expected Lorde would be massacred here but she seems to be getting a warm reception.

The music is not aggressively bad or embarrassing (though some of the lyrics are); it's a different kind of bad album, what the AV Club would call an "least essential album," "records whose very existence baffles us, from pointless remix projects to blatant cash-ins to celebrity vanity projects."

The songs are all just so second-string compared with and reminiscent of the last batch that you question the necessity of releasing them. The fact that it lumbers past 70 minutes like the previous album did doesn't help its case either. It was a chore to finish.

Remember how the common complaint last time was "these songs are great, but they really could have been edited down to single length"? Well this time, they really could have been edited down to single length without the added benefit of being particularly great.

I must admit it was 1000 X better to listen to Lordes album in whole than it was to listen to one Lana Del Ray song.

The Lorde album is a fantastic listen and I thought Pitchfork tackled it pretty well today. Yes, it does get a little same-songy... but you can't deny this girl's talent. She has an incredibly promising future in front of her.

I enjoyed Lorde's album, too. I think the song writing is a tad immature but I'm willing to overlook a lot of that because, you know, she's 16. I'm looking forward to more of her output, perhaps after she gets her heartbroken or becomes jaded in other ways. She's very talented and I hope she explores her more creative side rather than falling into the presumable pressure of creating nothing but easily-digestible radio-friendly pop songs (and yes, I know, it does take talent to write quality pop songs). 7.3 is pretty fair for this album.

    Darkside's album gets a 9.0. I'm cool with that.

8.3 for SubRosa - I can live with that

7.6 for Motörhead - pretty high for an average Lemmy release but ok

Since when does Pitchfork review Motorhead?

I like this link for the discussion in the comments about Pitchfork's early years. "Early 00s Pitchfork is one of the most fucked-up, damaging legacies in music."

Oh no, more people didn't listen to mainstream emo in the early '00s because Pitchfork was making them listen to Iron and Wine instead. We are only now recovering from this tragic legacy of hipsterism.

I forgot to mention this a few weeks ago, but the BNM for DJ Rashad's Double Cup is extremely well-deserved. Juke/footwork can get very repetitive very quickly, but, just like on his two EPs from earlier in the year, Rashad manages to experiment with the genre's basic framework enough to keep things interesting for almost all of the album's 50+ minutes.

Pitchfork also gave a Kanye West album a perfect 10. So, you know. Perspective and all.
