i haven't listened to the album and probably never will, but that seems pretty generous considering the site that is reviewing.

I don't know how you can say it's a "generous" review when you haven't listened to the album. Also, Pitchfork gives a lot of mediocre/bad albums great reviews.

Yes, it's good. I dare say, a return to form (I know there were some decent jams on Brothers, but that one took me a while to take to whereas El Camino is instant love).

Totally agree here. So catchy, great riffs. Seriously cannot wait to hear the songs live, I'm sure they will slay.

I'll give it a shot. I've given all their other albums a shot and nothing has warranted repeat listens. I enjoyed their Coachella 06? or 07? performance. The one where they played the outdoor at night.

Sans Arcade Fire, Pitchfork usually reviews a band this way once they breakthrough to the mainstream (see: Modest Mouse, the White Stripes, The Strokes), I guess I shouldn't have used the word "generous", a better word would have been "predictable"

So much of that review had nothing to do with the album, even by Pitchfork standards.

Oh my god. That Black Keys album review is a fucking joke. Most of the "review" is them wondering how The Black Keys got so popular. I will make it simple for you pitchfork: they're fucking good. Why are they so popular? Because they are a garage band that has managed to beat all the odds. They are a band where every single one of their albums could sound the same, and they could get away with it, but they have constantly evolved. And though their sound has gotten more pop-oriented, they did it while maintaining their artistic integrity, as oposed to a band like Muse. I think it is incredibly inspiring to see a rock 'n' roll band, like The Black Keys, reach this level of success. They are the little garage band that could.

I'm confused at the anger about a positive review. I'm more annoyed about their review of the latest Fall album:

Yeah, that Fall review doesn't talk about the merits at all. That more seems like an article the guy wanted to write, but he got turned down for his column so he slapped a score on it.

And I thought the Black Keys review was a praising writeup with a lower score than I'd expect for "their best and goofiest album."

That's the part that really got me. It's their best album and it gets a 7.6? I'd absolutely disagree that it's their best album, by the way, but if you're going to come to that conclusion, does their alleged rampant materialism really disqualify them from an 8+ score?

I like how nobody thinks the Childish Gambino release getting a 1.6 isn't a travesty or ''underrated''......

It's not a review of the album. It's a review of how Glover fits into the rap scene.
