I think it's definitely in my top 20... It might break the 10.

My top 3 are without a doubt Kid A, The Drift, and Drums Not Dead in no particular order.

not from Pitchfork, but this SXSW interview with Psychedelic Horseshit is pretty amusing:

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/pos..._expletiv.html

    Bands he hates passionately:
    TV on the Radio
    WAVVES
    No Age
    Vivian Girls

I know it's not a Pitchfork-originating thing, but I have to say that Strobe Light would have to be the best music-oriented April Fool's Day joke I've seen in a long, long while.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

I read that interview... Who is that guy? I mean, I'm not a staunch defender of TV on the Radio or anything, but where the fuck is he coming from?

yeah, at least the interviewer does a good job of letting him illustrate how fucking stupid he is.

I'm not a huge defender of Vivian Girls or TVOTR, because I think they are pretty boring. They don't deserve that kind of shit though. But Wavves writes good songs (and the production on the latest album is fucking primo, despite it being "lo fi") and No Age fucking tear it up.

I like where things are going.

Last year, we reported that the listener-supported freeform New Jersey radio station WFMU was planning on launching a library of free, legal downloads called the Free Music Archive.

Well, it's taken a little bit longer than the WFMU folks hoped, but the beta version of the Free Music Archive is up now, and it's already looking pretty awesome.

The site works like this: WFMU, along with a group of fellow curators like the Seattle station KEXP, the California collective dublab, and the New York venue ISSUE Project Room, pick and choose high-quality material to upload. Given the tastes of everyone involved, there's an awful lot of cool stuff up there. Right now, the site already includes tracks from the likes of Deerhoof, the Sea and Cake, Dan Deacon, Daniel Johnston, and Vivian Girls, as well the entirety of Nine Inch Nails' The Slip.

The FMA's archive is already into the quadruple digits, and the curators are adding new music every day. They also plan to announce more curators soon, so this thing will only get bigger. The site also includes sites and bios for the bands whose music it posts, so it's not inconceivable that someone will hear something they like and then actually buy an album based on that. Alternately, downloaders can send direct donations, via PayPal, to artists whose music they like.

Once you've found something you like, you can do pretty much whatever you like with it (except sell it). Everything on the site is cleared for use, so you can remix or podcast to your heart's content. If this site grows the way we imagine it will, it's about to become a hell of a resource.

You can learn more about the Free Music Archive here.

Wow, Pitchfork (or at least the reviewer) liked the newest Doves release, Kingdom of Rust, more than I expected they would: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/...ngdom-of-rust/.

    I disagree with this...

" Because if it really were all about the music, Jez and Andy Williams would be the most famous brothers to come out of Manchester,
If it really were all about the music Elbow would be the most famous band to break out of Manchester in this century.

This is a good news story:

Holy Best New Music, Batman! Three of Pitchfork's favorite artists are headed out on tour this summer. And while the idea of Cali punx No Age, ATL dream-poppers Deerhunter, and Baltimore mad scientist Dan Deacon hitting the road together is pretty cool under normal circumstances, this tour is going to be extra special. All three acts will be set up at once, and they will alternate songs. Just like Dan Deacon's wacky Baltimore Round Robin tour last fall. And it won't just be Deacon solo on this tour-- he's bringing along his full ensemble, as featured on his most recent trek. So look out, folks: this tour is gonna take up a LOT of room.

The odds of that landing in San Francisco might be worse than the odds of that landing in Missoula.

I am also excited. Although I bet the odds of that landing in Salt Lake are less than the odds of it landing in San Francisco and Missoula combined.

Speaking of tours and news on Pitchfork, Japandroids cancelled their U.S. tour. Color me pissed, I bought tickets the minute they went on sale!

fortunately, the didn't cancel the show at the bar a few blocks from my apartment.

unfortunately, it's probably a night I'm seeing animal collective.

    Yes, last Tuesday.

If you've seen him do his solo shows before, it's surprisingly not much different. He performs in the crowd and his band performs behind him. Except now, instead of performing with his back to to the crowd, he performs facing us. His band usually does not feature more than 10 members playing at once, despite it's being billed as a "15-Member Ensemble", and it's mostly made up of percussionists. There are three drummers that play pretty much the entirety of the set. His encore was "Wham City" which was just solo Dan.

His antics of the past are all still there. We made a human tunnel all around the venue during one of the songs. There was also a dance contest for another song. It was all a hell of a lot of fun, and his music is even better now than it was a year ago in my opinion...

so the EXACT same thing as coachella last year?

oh well, it will still be fun and the venue he is playing here holds like 200 people so that should be interesting.

I'm also bitter because Sonic Youth hasn't announced a date near me either. This week has been awful as is, and the SY and Japandroids news just solidified it.

My luck, the No Age/Deerhunter/Deacon show will happen when I'm not around.

I vote the No Age/Deerhunter/Dan Deacon tour does 4 nights in a row at the Smell.

    Somehow.
