    Default TOOL Summer Tour

Posted on their official website about an hour ago...

    TOOL SUMMER TOUR

"I'm sure many of you have heard of an upcoming summer tour. Although I can't announce any specific dates yet (as the bulk of the dates haven't been confirmed), once they are finalized and official, we'll be sure to announce them on the site. So... be on the lookout for these dates to be posted soon, and get ready for live Tool this summer. (Now I understand what that elemental was referring to in the February newsletter) "

    FUCK . YES .

hopefully its not just Euro dates. I'm not holding my breath

Glastonbury isnt a festival that would have Tool play. Reading or Leeds sure, but thats at the end of August. Kind of the only bet here, also there wouldve been chatter about it if they were looking at festivals, cause they try and book them waaaaay in advance.

I am a bigger fan of Nirvana than I am of Tool, but Tool is a much better live band than Nirvana.

ALthough i dont know if my reference points makes a difference. I saw Tool in a small club opening for Rollins Band and Maynard was very engaging, and I saw Nirvana at the Forum and wasnt very close so that ciould be where the difference lies.

Other than that, they are really two different bands that live shows cannot be compared.
    "It's in the K" - Martha Stewart

Since the show list is very minimal...
    August 29 // Chemical Brothers w/ Chromeo & Yacht @ Hollywood Bowl
September 26 // Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House & the Very Best @ Hollywood Bowl
October 5 // ARCADE FIRE @ Henry Miller Library
October 13 // Corin Tucker Band @ The El Rey
(someone should give me Sufjan Stevens tickets, aint got none of those)

Hopefully they'll play Intension/Right In Two more frequently.

And if they bring D/R/T back I'll go crazy!

That would be so fucking killer. I liked in the 2001-2002 tour when it was D/R/T/Lateralus to close the show.

Who's arguing Tool live over Nirvana live? You know there is more to live shows than pretty lights and projector screens.

Tool SOUNDS better than any band, except for maybe Radiohead, I have ever seen. It's not about the pretty lights and projector. That's just sort of a bonus. They would be awesome without any of that stuff.

this argument can go on all night...it's about preference...there's no right answer...some people tend to like excitement and energy on stage (which includes mess ups, improvs, whatever else)....rather than a band that can stick every note and make you think you're listening to a studio recording while watching movie screens in the background. Again, to each their own. I have nothing against Tool...

I completely agree man... myself, I've seen Tool live, and I found it extremely boring. The four of them just stood on stage in silhouette, you couldn't even see them play their instruments. I thought I was the only one that found them this boring so I'm glad to see I'm not entirely alone. I don't think Radiohead is exactly the most exciting live band either, though their mixing up of the setlists can be fun. To each his own of course.

But with that said, I'm not being the troll of the thread here, I really want to see them again and I think this announcement is great news. At the time that I saw them, I also was not at all a fan of their music, and that has since changed quite a bit. I would gladly see them this summer if given the chance. OSL would be awesome.

Tool doesn't really want you to focus on them too much. The guys on stage are there for the music. They want you to focus on the the visuals and the sound of the music instead of just them. The actual people aren't the entire show. The entire show is them, the music, the lights, etc. So they kind of blend in on purpose.

Well I'm just not a "visuals" person. So I guess that's a bad start. And I guess the thing is, I can appreciate tight musicianship, but only when I can watch the musicians closely as they perform it. I'm a musician so I like to see other musicians who are way better than me do what they're good at, ya know? I like to see their fingers moving up and down the fretboard.

And I'm also a sucker for crazy onstage energy. This is not a trait of mine that I'm very proud of. I was just born this way...
