    Default The Sandwich Thread

Have your preferences changed over the years? Any really memorable sandwich experiences that you think are worth sharing? How about boring run of the mill sandwich stories that you've already shared on this forum before in other threads?

I choked on a sandwich while trying to learn O. N-John's "Physical" for karaoke.

Is there a way for me to tell my partner that he's too heavy on the mustard without triggering latent culturally structured insecurities about condiment spreading?

I eat Subway almost everyday for lunch because almost everything that is walking distance from my work is expensive. But today i decided to take a break and drive to the Chicago Hot Dog place down the street. I got a BLT. I rarely eat white bread, but they made it on white and cooked the bread on butter like one would do with a grilled cheese. The sandwich was super greasy and totally fucking delicious. I also had fries covered in celery salt.

I've bought and eaten sandwiches from different vendors in the same day, shamelessly. Get yours.

Arugula is a fantastic replacement for lettuce in just about any sandwich. And you don't need to shred it, just pile it on. One recent winner contained ham, very strong Blue Stilton Danish cheese, tomato, red pepper and arugula toasted under the broiler on whole wheat bread. Glorious.

There was one time a good buddy and me and this one really hungry chick were all in a room together and she started to try to eat a sandwich with both of us, but eventually there reached a point (pre-turkey being out) where we kinda looked at each other and did the, "... so, you? or me? Not us" conversation before I acquiesced.

Last Christmas I had a sandwich experience I'll not soon forget. I'm not gluten free by any means but the month of December was an extraordinarily sandwich free month. I wanted sandwiches, even tried the local take out options, but when it came time for the real business, I just couldn't bring myself to go through with it. I started to watch late night commercials of these voluptuous browned pair of whole wheat globes, framing these beautiful folds of au juis dripping roast beef and I'd just start crying. I wanted a sandwich so bad I could taste it, but became resigned that I just wasn't good enough to have even one in my life.

By Christmas week, I had actually started planning a way out. I couldn't take this day to day drudgery without tasting an occasional moist French dip, California club, or hell I'd even settle for a quick Cuban, even though they've never worked out well for me. Somehow I managed to make it through to Christmas Day and made the trip to my old neighborhood to visit with my family. On the way in, I made a stop into my old bakery. You see this was the place my old man took me as a kid. He put some money on the counter and this flour covered woman led me down a hall and fed me my first peanut butter and jelly. Oh man I'll never forget that one...

Anyway my plan was to load up on loaves of black bread, pumpernickel, rye, whole wheat, and sourdough. My plan involved placing them in the room while I faded away, so I'd know why I was doing this. If I was gonna go out, I was taking them with me. So, as I show up to my family's house, I smell something unfamiliar. A scent I'd noticed before, but never at our functions, it was slightly sweet, somewhat salty, but altogether inviting. I had to know what that smell was. As I walked in the house I passed by the outstretched arms of father and my sister, and headed straight for the kitchen. I was shocked by what I saw. Past the island, totally bent over with her head In the oven was my mother. She was wearing gloves and a little skirt and had her hand halfway up the dripping wet produce of a full size turkey. It was an awkward silence for a while, but eventually my mother spoke and said "son, I'm sorry you saw that, but we've all been worried about you, and well, we got you something special for Christmas".

I've never been close to my family but that turkey, the tender bacon, sweet tomatoes, glistening iceberg lettuce, and that perfectly toasted sourdough came together that day to change my life forever. But that's another story, for another time...

I can't quantify the number of sandwiches that have given me an erection. I know it's a lot though. My top 2 at this moment come from this place called Le Diplomat Cafe.

#1. Chicken, broccoli, sauteed mushrooms, swiss cheese, garlic sauce (Gods cum) served hot on a french baguette.
#2. Roast Beef, lettuce, tomato, melted brie, dijon mustard served hot a french baguette.

He retired to his quarters and played video games. If he stuck around, it would've been too much like eating a wrap for my liking.

Look, I'm not closed-minded. I was never the type to say that I'm fucking SO SURE THERE'S NOTHING IN ME THAT DOESN'T LIKE WRAPS. It wasn't until this past year when I turned 31 that I decided since it hasn't seemed to interest me yet despite many offers, I'm now finally relatively confident that I'm a sandwich dude and that's about it. And frankly, it wasn't even that great of a feeling to be sure of it. Do you have any idea how many meals I'm passing up by being a sandwich dude? I get an absurd number of meals even without mixing wraps in, if I was just a wrap dude or even liked both I could make a living having my appetite quenched.
