Okkervil did a version of Westfall entirely in Spanish at Primavera. It was also good seeing Charles from the Wrens playing with them (albeit for the last time).

It is my opinion that these cats are back on track with this one.

Going for Sea Wolf, staying for Okkervil River
Lick an orange, it tastes like an orange. Lick a pineapple, it tastes like a pineapple. Go ahead, try it. Try some more. The strawberries taste like strawberries. The snozzberries taste like snozzberries! We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. Come along, come along.
Just caught them at the Showbox in Seattle. Good show, I'm all for an appearance at Coachella 09. Sea Wolf was boring.
Yerrrr a towel!

They played here last night. We only have two major venues, and they played the one at which I do not have an in to be guestlisted whenever I want. Being beyond broke, I couldn't go. It's also right in front of my work, so I had to look at their marquee and posters and eventually tourbus all day. Sometimes bands park lots of tourbusses in front of our store directly and inconvenience us and we can weasel some free tickets out of it, but nooooo. Okkervil River have to be the most considerate band out there and park down the street, in front of a building that's for lease. Thanks, Will. Thanks a heap.
Seeing them at ACL. Looking forward to it.
once again, sea wolf blows the main act out of the water.

Sea Wolf was good last night in Tempe, but Okkervil River were most definitely NOT blown out of the water. I mentioned this in the Phoenix thread but I had passed out before the first band even came on and was checked out by the paramedics, but instead of opting to go on an ambulance ride, I chose to stick around. I certainly did not regret the decision. They played with so much energy and the crowd was lapping it up. I saw one girl near the front seriously losing her shit to them; it was fantastic.
Songs played included:
From Black Sheep Boy - "Black Sheep Boy," "For Real," "The Latest Toughs," and "So Come Back, I Am Waiting" (which was terrific enough to warrant being called "epic")
From The Stage Names - "Our Life Is Not a Movie or Maybe," "Unless It's Kicks" (my favorite track of theirs, which they closed with), "A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene," "A Girl in Port" (which they opened with), and "John Allyn Smith Sails"
I'm actually not so familiar with The Stand-Ins that I can recall which songs from this were played, though I know "Lost Coastlines" and "Singer Songwriter" were played. I think "Blue Tulip" and "Bruce Wayne Campbell Interviewed on the Roof of the Chelsea Hotel, 1979" were the encore, but I can't be certain. All I know is they didn't play "Calling and Not Calling My Ex," which was the only absence that disappointed me.
Oh, and they played a track off their second album, which I don't own and thus I'm not sure what the song was.
I felt like I was finally seeing a band that's on the verge of blowing up in a small, intimate venue. Whether they do in fact gain the sort of attention that Arcade Fire (for instance) have attained or continue playing smaller venues, I'm going to make it a point to see them whenever they swing into my city and I suggest everyone else act accordingly.
yeah! love this thread!!!!

Love, love.
Letterman tonight, huh? Should be swell.
Who'd have thought this thread would reach the 20-page point? I've been listening to the earlier stuff lately and can't get by how good "A Favor" is. Actually, that entire album is just the tits.
