Why do people hate Linkin Park?

This isn't me really being PRO-Linkin Park.

I'm just curious as to why they are disliked amongst people like the ones who post on this board.

Is it Chesters whiney vocals?
Is it the at-times corny raps or Mike Shinoda?
Is it the rap/rock thing?
Is it their fan base?
Or just the content of the lyrics?

I really liked Meteora, but if for no other reason it was because of the music more so than lyrics.
But I happen to like Chesters voice.

I kinda skimmed through their last album, so I can't really say much about that. But I guess they switched up their sound a bit for that one.

In any case, I like the electro-rock sound of their first 2 albums.

I'll admit that Linkin Park are one of my guilty pleasures, but one that I haven't indulged in for a long time. I haven't listened to anything past Meteora. I also have the Live in Texas DVD, but have yet to watch it. Reanimation was okay, and Hybrid Theory was pretty cool. I don't think I've given Meteora a close listen.

I think the reason I'm ashamed of this guilty pleasure would definitely be Chester's whiney vocals. A lot of rap is corny, so it's not so much that. I mean, my favorite rapper is DOOM, and he always has corny stuff to say. The fan base is definitely another reason to keep Linkin Park love under wraps. People might assume that I like Puddle of Mudd or Hinder or whatever.

It's because every song they play sounds like a "pre-written-by-a-songwriter-to-appeal-to-fans-of-american-idol" boyband song...but trying to have a hip-hop "edge" to it. It's lame as all fuck.

Sorry to ruin them for you. It had to happen sometime though. I still have good memories of listening to Hybrid Theory in grade 8 and buying Meteora the day it came out when I was in grade 10.

Linkin Park is one of my high school favs as well. But I don't listen to them now.

However, I still enjoy their instrumental "cure for the itch".

They're good at what they do, and make melodies that blend well together. but I don't listen to them now. I never listened to anything after Meteora - it was all shit after that.

Even when I was in middle school and liked some shitty music, I still had enough sense to know that Linkin Park sucked.

I listened to a vast array of crap in high school. Especially in middle school. I used to enjoy KoRn and Slipknot a little too much. It's weird because in elementary school, I listened to things like Oasis, Fiona Apple, Dave Matthews Band, and stuff from the 80s. I guess middle school was just a weird "finding myself" kind of bullshit. Going to Lollapalooza in my junior year and listening to Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead is what saved me. In my senior year of high school, I went to Coachella 2005 and have been listening healthily ever since.
